Age splits are offered at the National Level with a purpose to encourage people that they will be showing with people of the same capabilities for the age of their body to compete on a level playing field. None of us are looking for an easy win with less entries. We would love to see bigger classes with people in our age group.

Thank you everyone for your comments! Region 12 heard you and acted quickly to have our show be the best one ever. Most of the classes have been reinstated. These guys are volunteers and should be greatly appreciated by all of us for doing the best job on a Regional show ever. The Show Committee has always had the best intentions for all of us and we thank them wholeheartedly for acting swiftly and doing a great job in assisting all of us. Please let them know we truly thank them :).

Their are a lot of prima donna's who have a lot of power in decision making process involving the shows. These people don't show themselves, but love to lord over the amateurs who are paying their salaries .

I believe that it is important to not only keep in mind the cost of running the show, but also the costs that amateurs and trainers when it comes to showing horses. I think that it is important to provide age splits for divisions, especially in the youth divisions so as not to discourage the future of the industry. I believe that this is a decision that should have been brought to the attention of trainers and amateurs alike when the prize list for 2016 was being created. It seems as though halter has been one of the divisions that is suffering the most, and to remove performance and amateur age splits so as to include additional halter classes may not be the best use of resources.
Based on my past experiences, I believe that how other regional shows have been operating would be offering at least one age split class per division, usually in the AATR or JTR due to the fact that these classes tend to be larger without the owner restriction. This would not only be beneficial to farms that have several amateurs showing in the same discipline but in various age groups. Should there be a large amount of entries in both the AATR/AAOTR or JTR/JOTR, there may need to be an age split for both.
Additionally, by having age splits for the AATR/JTR, there may still be enough space in the schedule to include other amateur classes that were removed (such as amateur side saddle).
I am disappointed that I will not be able to attend Region 12 this year, and the lack of age splits did play a major part as to why I will not be competing at Region 12.

Very negative move for amateur performance classes. I feel that the addition of the whole afternoon session of Egyptian halter classes had something to do with this.
