My oldest daughter participated and I am hoping my youngest can when she gets to 6th grade. It was a really rewarding experience for my eldest daughter when she went.

Children need exposure . Books can explain nature. A camp creates wonder and a desire to learn about creatures large and small.

6th grade camp should be reinstated as part of the regular school year. It should not be during spring break.

Camp is an important part of an expansive, wholesome, balanced education. For many children this will be the first experience they have had outside of urban life. I grew up in LA and was gobsmacked to learn of 6th grade camp when I moved to SD, much too late for me; however, my husband and his siblings and our children did attend this wonderful opportunity. I agree that it is time to reinstate the funding for today's children.

All students should have the ability to attend an outdoor school program during the regular school year. Students show tremendous gains both academically and socially by attending residential outdoor school programs, especially when those programs are operated by institutions of public education. Please do your due diligence as a school board to ensure that all La Mesa Spring Valley students receive a quality education which includes an outdoor school experience. Send the 6th Graders to Camp!
