Regulate Fireworks

If other countries are safely using silent fireworks then I don't see why we aren't using them too. Every single year dogs run away on New Year's and often never return. It is just not necessary.

Fireworks are dangerous and one day there will be a nasty accident. All dogs are terrified of them.

I do not think fireworks should be permitted in the city limits. I have had debris from fireworks land on my roof and in my garden. It is very worrying, not to mention the noise is unsettling and goes on far too long. This year on my street they started as early as 7:30 and we're still happening at 2pm!! I personally think a 1 hour time frame is more then enough. I keep my cat indoors but she was still upset as the fireworks seemed very close and were very load.

I completely agree with the limits on who when and where fireworks are to be released.. I agree they can be quite pretty, but I am a pet owner of a dog that is 12 years old, she is days getting over the use of fireworks., it's ridiculous really..

I agree 100% - I live in Grand Falls and would like to see some controls put in place. It's not fair to pets or people with other issues having to deal with the noise etc. Its an explosive device and you can buy it with no restrictions other than age. Just not Ok by me !!!

Restrict the days and hours for fireworks. Actual dates of fireworks between 10 pm and 12:30 pm should more than suffice. The constant barrage of fireworks causes stress for people and pets.

Pyrotechnics are explosives and the purchase and use of such should be restricted. These should not be open to recreational and indiscriminate use. They pose a danger to the users, bystanders and neighbours. There is no limit on how many fireworks an individual can purchase or set off, yet for any city sponsored event a great deal of training, safety and planning goes into to fireworks events. The city should be held liable for any damages, physical, or otherwise or failing to regulate and restrict the recreational and indiscriminate use of fireworks

Good idea,ur pets have suffered much in the past. Use lazor lights instead.

Bilaws need to be updated so that fireworks should only be set off at designated hours and designated places preferably! Private fireworks start as early as 4 pm and last until 2-3 am. This is a major disturbance for children, seniors and pets.

It's time that others give respect to those around them. Taxpayers dollars are spent each year on fireworks at a location where everyone can go and enjoy if they want too. Why are they allowed to use fireworks on their own property? A lot of these people are using these fireworks when they are under the influence of alcohol and drugs with no consideration for other that live around them. You have the authority, do something about it.

People should be charged if they set off fireworks outside of acceptable hours and certain dates.

i cannot agree more.. thank you very much for starting this petition it is beyond me why people insist on terrorizing pets and people with their complete lack of consideration, normally, my dog is as stable as a rock, that is until these drunken idiots decide they need to celebrate, with their barrage of lights and stupidity, then puppy turns into a frightened, inconsolable mess, desperate for cover.. it breaks my heart, and angers me enough to want to call a lawyer to take someone to task for allowing this terrorizing display of negligence.. next time i'll be calling the police and then handing the city of st. john's a lawsuit- maybe then these idiots will smarten up- when they get bombed in the wallet..

For the sake of our beautiful fur babies, please regulate the time that fire works can be set off. They are so scared of the fireworks that it can take weeks for them to calm down.

I like fireworks as much as the next guy, and I don't want to take away anyone's fun. BUT some people are not responsible enough to be respectful. Council needs to update their guidelines and set limits for safe and reasonable use.

They started on NYE at about 8pm and went straight through til after 1am. The house directly behind mine had a misfire, which resulted in a stray firecracker zipping through my backyard and getting caught in a tree before it hit my patio doors! They started up again on Jan 1st and went on for 4 hours. And they were being set off again last night - the 2nd - for another hour. I have two dogs, one of which is absolutely terrified of fireworks. He's spent hours panting, shaking and crying over the past few days. Restrictions are needed.

I totally agree. Residential fireworks ARE out of control. Who would have thought that setting off explosives while drinking is considered ok...just because you are celebrating something. I have animals as well that are frightened by the noises...which for a dogs hearing, is 10 times louder. The mess that is left in public areas is disgraceful...because some people just don't care. It's time for St. John's to get off its butt and start regulating and most importantly fining people who think it's ok to set off fireworks in their backyards...which these days is within 15-20 ft from their neighbors house. The city provides the fireworks....go see that! It's just plain dangerous for everyone and the animals. How many animals go missing because of this....too many.
