Regulation of Dirt Extraction Pits in Mills County Iowa

This dirt removal operation, to include supporting operations, is cause health issues for my family and a reduced quality of life for us. It is also diminishing my property value, causing me lost in investment and limiting my ability to sale the property and relocate. At minimum the county should reassess our property taxes and reinvest some of the money being made back into the affected neighborhoods, such as paving the roads, adding safety and sound deadening features around the property, etc.

The Loess Hills are only found in two areas of the world - China and SW Iowa. It's sad that the "hills" are being cut away for someone's profit! And the PCI truck drivers seem to think they own the road - stop signs don't mean anything to them, nor does the right away of oncoming traffic.

The fact that this is allowed in areas of known archeological significance shows an amazing amount of ignorance by our elected officials and callous disregard for Mills County's rich cultural heritage.

The trucks are a hazard on the road. One foggy morning I pulled up to one with only one lit tail light! DANGEROUS!

We have mainly been affected by uncovered loads on dirt trucks. Twice we have had rocks fallen from trucks and damaged windshield and side of our cars even though we kept safe distance. I agree with not wanting to pay for the damage to the roads either. I am also concerned of what kind of damage willbe left to these excavation sites once the work is over.

The removal of anything from this area could be not only dirt but sacred artifacts from the people that have lived here for centuries. Read this document http://www.goldenhillsrcd.org/pdfs/the-immense-journey.pdf to see where sites have been documented. I have been in contact with the State Archeologist and he wants maps of the land and those who own it. I am sending him the last plat book I have with the names of the people who own the land, I do not have the names of the people that recently bought the Van Pelt land, which includes the person desecrating the land in that area. It will take a village to get this done, but if possible the ancient ones might help get this STOPPED NOW!!!

The road is a mess. The traffic is terrible. You can feel how damaged the road surface has become in the time that the dump truck traffic has been using it.
