I urge the Malibu City Council to rewrite the ordinance regarding Short Term Rentals to restrict such rentals to only those properties where the owner is actually living in the house, condo or apartment. The quality of life is being seriously degraded by STRs in Malibu because the people who rent these properties use them as drunken party houses and make tremendous disturbances plus they sometimes leave bottles, cans and other rubbish behind that litters our neighborhoods. Thank you for your consideration.

STR's are the worst thing to happen in Malibu

Please! I live next to a perpetual “ABNB” and it’s a complete and total unmitigated disaster. Weekends are terrible. I’ve had items stolen from the common area in our unit... I have a 4 year old son and it’s not appropriate to have parties at all hours of the night on the other side of his bedroom wall...

Before the city creates a new bureaucratic mess almost sure to invite scrutiny from Coastal, let's try enforcing current law, which does ban this blight.

No short term rentals. I don't want all sorts of people coming in. They could be from anywhere and can be anyone. Crowds our community and makes Malibu less safe.

Fortunately, our condo CC&RS allow rentals of 30 days or more. Sadly, we have had to contact lawyers to put a stop to those who have ignored this. The short term people were a nuisance being loud, throwing noisy parties, leaving garbage around the area, and creating discomfort for the other residents and neighbors.

We have dicussed this in Council over and over. "Compliance" and follow-up were the promises some members rode in on. Let's see that happen per community LAW.

STRs are the STDs in a neighborhood. Let's toss out this infection once and for all!

Short term rentals destroy the quiet rural neighborhoods throughout Malibu. I have lived her 22 years and was disappointed to learn we allowed them at all. After the fire, it limited the ability of our neighbors who lost their homes or had fire damage to find local housing. Friends had to move to Santa Monica, Calabasas and some even needed to move three, four or five times for lack of local guesthouses that were being rented as Airbnb instead. Terrible to displace residents in favor of non-residents.

Let's bring the ambience back to Malibu the way it used to be... respectful, courteous, kind and caring.
