The world's first ATM was installed in a branch of Barclays in Enfield, North London. On 27 June 1967 Reg Varney official opened the machine and was the first person to use it.
Although pre ON THE BUSES Reg was a well know TV and Radio star at that time and a large crowd turned out to see him.
There is a plaque on the wall of the bank to commemorate this but gives no mention to Reg Varney. Please sign the petition and see if we can persude Barclays to add a new plaque to include Reg.
It is shameful that the bank takes the credit for the ATM but does not give any recognition to its opening by Mr Varney. It's typical of big business to ignore the public for whom they work!
