The world's first ATM was installed in a branch of Barclays in Enfield, North London. On 27 June 1967 Reg Varney official opened the machine and was the first person to use it.

Although pre ON THE BUSES Reg was a well know TV and Radio star at that time and a large crowd turned out to see him.

There is a plaque on the wall of the bank to commemorate this but gives no mention to Reg Varney. Please sign the petition and see if we can persude Barclays to add a new plaque to include Reg.

I really never thought this would gain so much traction but here we are and honestly it feels like people actually care about the history of this machine as much as I do. It is wild to think that a bit of recognition for Reg could actually happen if enough people keep noticing this missing detail. Now I am just trying to figure out the best way to get this in front of the people at the bank who can actually swap the plaque out.

It is shameful that the bank takes the credit for the ATM but does not give any recognition to its opening by Mr Varney. It's typical of big business to ignore the public for whom they work!

Come on Barclays,do the right thing & honour the great man with a new plaque including his name. It's a great bit of history so it should be known by everyone! Reg Varney is a British icon & legend! I'll get you Butler - Get that bus out!

It's Reg's birth centenary next year (2016) and the museum in Budleigh Salterton where I am a volunteer is planning an exhibition to honour him. The more you read about him the more you realise he was more than just a comedy actor. Definitely deserves a plaque mention.

Reg Varney was a first class entertainer and true gent. He also helped make my childhood a happy one with his work for 'On the Buses'. Happy days and great memories.

Barclay's, this is as much a part of your BRITISH banking history as ours. Reg Varney was a famous figure in the world of entertainment and deserves the recognition,
