Reform the broken Seattle / King County criminal justice system now!

I want to walk the streets of my neighborhood without watching my back constantly. Let’s make Seattle a safer place for those who are law-abiding citizens, allow the police to do their jobs, and get these repeat offenders off the street. There must be consequences for all who break the law!

I caught a guy who broke into my building. My friends and I were able to chase him down and ensure his arrest a couple days later. This person was released like no big deal the same day. The detective involved laughed at me when I asked for the suspect's name so the people in my building could get an order of protection and be aware of his presence and if he was still around lurking. The person we apprehended had a huge knife, scores of keys, fobs, access cards, and keys to heavy machinery!? Could he have been the reason the crane fell near Google in South Lake Union killing those people? The detective laughed and said "I don't think you know how things work in Seattle boy" and spoke to me like I was the criminal. He said he would not give me the criminal's name and was afraid I would do something. I told him "You call this working?! 10X the property crime of Chicago in this tiny town and you call this working!?" The police laughed at my quip and I told him that it's their duty to protect us. We need to know that his bond was set appropriately and whether or not he's out and whether or not he'll strike again. He was caught on film and when we cornered him and the police got involved he finally admitted to stealing it. The police didn't go through his belongings because they said the city has taken their ability for search and seizure and even with probable cause are requiring warrants. EVEN WITH PROBABLE CAUSE!?

I'm tired of do-nothing politicians (City Council and the Mayor) of letting our Seattle looking decayed with drugs, feces, drug dealers and gang members. We should not vote for the same people over and over again and no results.

Prolific violent repeat offenders who commit THREE crimes should face higher prison sentences. 20 is way too much. Many cities have a "3 strikes" rule!

Enough already!! Restore my rights to safely walk, dine and shop in Seattle. I avoid entirely the Westlake area given all the thugs and gangs, and have had moved my “transit” point to University Ave.

the politicians that run Seattle are only interested in extracting money from those who work to spread among their friends and donars. They dont care about crime.

I live and work in Ballard, and am extremely frustrated that a certain population of people are allowed to commit crimes that tax paying citizens are not. Law enforcement for all!

I live in downtown Seattle. I'm sick and tired of these repeat offenders going free to commit more crimes. Something needs to be done!

After 46 yrs in Seattle, my wife and I now only shop and dine in Edmonds as it is too unsafe and difficult to access downtown Seattle. What a shame!

Early intervention programs such as birth to three, thrive by five, head start are all evidence based and would be the ultimate solution, instead of this crisis management that is so typical of large bureaucratic institutions.

Read Scott Lindsay. Common sense and based on data ideas for solving this mess. No community activists. Just get it done.

Our laws are a joke if they're not enforced - the latest shooting should never have been able to happen.

I represent the Belltown Business Association and serve on the MID board. The same broken system will remain broken if there is not system reform. The fact that we have prolific offenders pin-ponging back and forth between arrest and release is evidence of a broken system.
