Since WE the parents sign the front of the checks I feel we should have a say in this decision. SCAD administration needs to remember we are the customers who pay the bills.

@Travis Chan while I agree with you that this petition probably won't change anything, what it does show is the discontent that the students have with a decision that was (seemingly) made without consultation with the student body. The students of SCAD are currently cut out of the administrative decision making progress that a lot of other schools, public and private, have in the form of a student government. SCAD does have a United Student Forum, but as far as I've seen, it doesn't seem like they are involved in any administrative decisions. What this petition shows to me is the discontent the SCAD student body currently has to their predicament, and that has surfaced in the form of a petition against the schedule changes.

Just fyi, but this petition is not going to work since a lot of people, including me and professors, have already made and paid for new plans as a result of SCADs new schedule. If SCAD changes the schedule to keep the original schedule, a huge group will just make a new ipetition to keep the extention.
You can't make everyone happy, and all I see here is people in the middle of processing their classic 5 stages of grief: Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. ...Well not the acceptance part. Yet!
People, it's time you all deal with this situation practically and negotiate with your professors on what to do. For example, 1 viable way is to have a friend Skype you in through his/her laptop during class so you don't get absent. Figure out ways in how you can present your final remotely, and negotiate to see if you can get a friend to help out with the presentation in flipping slides or physically bring your project, while you do the presentation via laptop or something. I can personally confirm that it is viable to attend class via skype on someone else's laptop and still not get absent, as I've done it once before when I was sick.

My son is attending SCAD Savannah, but we live overseas. I have already posted my concerns on the SCAD home site and the SCAD international site. The majority of students, whether from the US or abroad have made their travel plans, holiday plans or work plans and none of these can be altered without great cost and unnecessary upset to all involved. These students have already been through enough with the evacuation because of the hurricane and forced travel, many who did not get evacuated to Atlanta had to cover with their own expenses to flee the city. Now you are imposing more stress on them with these changes. We compel you to find a more suitable solutions to completion of the term without altering the original end date of November 17th.

Now that the petition has reached its goal, someone needs to send this to the administration.

While I understand the need to make up time- the current schedule is unworkable so close to the holidays. We've made flights and we will lose $.

As a parent of a SCAD student with pending surgery that was based on the Fall calendar, this is not acceptable by any means. Students and their families make plans based on the calendars, and should not be penalized due to and act of nature. I'm sure there is another solution for the students to finish the quarter on time. It is a matter of those that are involved in that decision making setting down and either working out another solution or being extremely flexible with students who have made commitments based on the calendar dates that are issued for the Fall Quarter.

There needs to be a compromise. This new plan does not show any consideration for the international students at all. The costs to change flight tickets are almost the same as the price of the flight for some of us. IF SCAD made it NON-MANDATORY to attend classes in that last week, atleast the international students or students who NEED to leave on time can. And the seniors/juniors/any student who would prefer to stay can do so.
