Communication from the business is woeful. Turn around time for fixing REAL problems is woeful. Reactive measures are taken. Very little, if any proactive measures taken. As a whole the business is not fit for purpose. A rethink is in dire need. A proper consultation with ALL parties is absolutely necessary.

Ever since CRT took over from BW, the canals have declined exponentially.

So sad to see the decline of the system. Local canals on the BCN are becoming unnavigable.

I have been boating for around thirty years, I have never experienced how bad the waterways and facilities have become, weeds and greenery in water, hardly any dredging, that’s why we are experiencing on the flooding, no where for the water to go, showers, toilets dirty, smelly and disgusting, all boaters want to use these facilities. This is Lincoln and South Yorkshire area. Always promises, nothing gets done.

Foliage is encroaching from side opposite towpath so that wide beam boats can’t use canals which would otherwise be wide enough. Since we pay more for our licenses this seems unfair.

The state of a lot of canals leaves a lot to be desired!!

The canal system is getting worse, "wait until it breaks" rather than proper maintenance and money wasted converting towpaths to cycle raceways

CRT management have got rid of so many assets and limited the work the front line staff can do. All in favour of paying management rather than sorting the issues and preserving the country’s heritage. They are a disgrace and should be removed and the whole company got rid off and a new team put in place that will work to sort the issues across the network.

Leaking locks, motorbikes and other debris, no dredging - canals becoming unnavigable - massive decline over the last 10 years

The canals remain open, such as they are, due only to the dedication of the grunt workforce and the vast army of volunteers; the senior "management" and directors are intellectually wholly inadequate for the task. This is not a situation that will or can continue. Maintenance is entirely reactive, there is nothing proactive being done. Lives are at stake - for example: Whaley Dam - a C&RT disaster averted at the last by the Nation's Armed Forces and Police. The directors appear to think that they are running some sort of metropolitan cycliing and jogging club, not a hugely complicated and valuable canal network - for boats. Many more years of this and all that will be left will be several hundred weed-infested, disconnected, long, narrow, shallow, corporation duck ponds alongside Sustrans cycle paths. Other than this, I have no strong opinions on the matter.

Everyday maintenance needs to be undertaken by CRT employees not contractors. Costs are escalated by such market forces. Equipment and plant should be owned by CRT and not hired. It is a license to print money to have one of these contracts. The prohibitive cost of works due to this out sourcing means we are witnessing major issues because earlier maintenance was unaffordable

It is a long time since adequate repairs were carried out. CRT seem to believe repairing things when they break is maintenance
