Refer Canal & River Trust to govt for failures to maintain uk inland waterways

CRT have failed to maintain the waterways and it's infrastructure. It employs few people who are competent and have experience in the maintainenance of the waterways. It is using volunteers to oversee locks and tunnels that are problematic, such as, Harefield tunnel. They have gentrified many of the waterways, closed access to towpaths and appears to be just an asset stripper and property developer. CRT is gaining a poor reputation and some organisations refer to CRT as 'the property developers''.

It's disgraceful the state of our waterways

Continue to charge boats a lot of money for licenses, but then instead of working for us, they bully us with petty regulations, as if we are an inconvenience,andd totally fail to address the growing and rampant crime and unlicensed boats on the canal.

So much is being spent on signage and encouraging walkers and cyclists to use the towpath with very little maintenance on the actual waterways and locks!

CRT service levels are declining despite fees and costs soaring with nothing in return‼️ Constant problems concerning lock maintenance, dredging, moorings and withdrawal of facilities just on the stretch of the Trent we frequent between Loughborough and Cromwell and it’s getting worse

Canals would not exist without boats so why are boaters having their freedoms undermined by CRT by having more terms and conditions added and their freedoms eroded away by more and more 'no mooring' appearing on the waterways even though they are collecting ever increasing money from us?

Spend money on canals, locks etc. not towpaths used by people who do not pay anything

Utter useless feel targeted because I'm young dont have a top of the range boat what's ok for people with expensive boats who fit in is not ok for me they used to send me letters every other week I have a chronic illness that they made worse trying to force me to move all the time even when severely I'll I've always paid my fees but still hassle me I had to get my doctor to write them a letter in the end explaining my illness and only then did they leave me alone. sick of them doing nothing and getting volunteers to do all the hard work I've watched a crt fund raiser being paid all day get two signatures for 5 pound a month I'm not a mathematician but I can tell that's waisting money and hearing the head of crt gets 250000+ a year for what running a discriminating organisation that treats people like dirt. I'm happy to sign this a feel a little comfort that other people feel the same

We will be constant cruisers and need these wonderful canals to remain open and in good order. They are a national treasure.

Nothing ever changes unless there are consequences, the way to get change is to stop there funding, we should all get together and lobby the main investors regarding carts treatment of the entire boating community, seems to me the majority of wasted money goes on jobs for the boys, ie people who are not good enough to make a successful business as a self employed yet gets a job at cart earning far more than they are worth, I could save cart a fortune just by letting the boaters run there own marinas, the majority of money going to the upkeep of the waterways and not to workers who do very little for there wage and would not be missed if gone

We pay a lot of money in mooring and licence fee yet see nothing come back for it and the canal and footpaths are deteriorating

They need to do more for those who live on, pay the licence and use the actual canal

40 years owning various boats - never seen such a maintenance debarcle.

keep signing the waterways are disgraceful they stop maintenance but don't stop price rising

Who decides on the priorities - because it appears CRT are not prioritising very effectively at all!

I am signing this due to the shocking ways the canals in the UK are managed. There is more emphasis on lining directors & chairman’s pockets with wad fulls of cash than keeping the canals in a proper state of repair. These kind of people need to hold there heads in complete shame.

The canal system n this country are shocking . What do we pay our fees for ?

The waterways were so choked with weed after lockdown that I was unable to move due to constant prop fouls- ultimately requiring me to pay for engine repairs. The toilet pump out facilities seem to be permanently broken across London leaving me without a working toilet at a time when public toilets and cafes have been closed. CRT are becoming slum landlords.

Over hanging trees and ever encroaching reeds are making the canals unnavigable. Come on CRT look after them properly. As boat licence payers shouldn't we be expecting to see more maintenance work for the waterways than periodic mowing of the towpaths.
