Reducing Class Size in Bettendorf School District

Smaller classes are essential for learning.

This will allow our children to learn more effectively, as well as allow our teachers to teach more effectively.

Let's give our kids a chance to excel! Be a leader Bettendorf.

It will increase better performance for the students. My son had ADD and benefited from smaller class size. The Bettendorf schools testing of student will greatly improve with this change.

This has been a problem for a long time in the upper elementary grades. Very much in favor of class size reduction.

Research has shown that children benefit most when they are in small classes early in their schooling experience AND they remain in the small class setting for several years. In my opinion, it is important that the Bettendorf School District makes a commitment to implementing a successful class size reduction program.

I am originally from Davenport. I have always considered Bettendorf school district to be the best in the area. I was shocked to discover that they have the largest class size relative to nearby school districts. This is unacceptable! Bettendorf can and should do better for our children.

It just seems like good common sense that smaller class sizes would benefit our students and help our teachers to achieve their goals in the classroom.

When 54% of the students are from outside your schools boundaries, you know you have a problem.

Smaller class sizes, stop choice/open enrollment. I'm aware Bett gets $ to accept students from outside the district but Bett will NOT continue to be a top choice for schools if this keeps happening!

Smaller class sizes can only be a good thing.

Would like to see class sizes reduced for upper grades as well. My son is in an honors pre-calculus class where there is not enough desks for students, & apparently not enough room to add more. He sits at a chair without a desk unless someone is absent. Over crowding can't be good for the teacher or the students!

Plans to reduce class size must be considered in the district's facilities plan.

Even 25 students is awfully high for a kindergarten class.

If we want to continue to excel the student to teacher ratio does need to decrease, teachers can not give the quality time and attention needed when there are more children to divide that time and attention among. Plus I see kids that are "squeezed" into classrooms that were meant to hold at most 25 kids, AT MOST 25 kids! That have 27, who can successfully teach 25 plus kids for 180+days and not feel burnt out?

I know for a fact my son does better with more one on one attention. Yes. This needs to happen!

Update to my earlier comment and more important, while we all want smaller class sizes, first we need to keep all of the schools open and then discuss where we could possibly add a section to help create more space. Closing schools does not create more space. The added sections at a school will be created to make room for the students that are being moved from one school to another. It doesn't create more room, just shuffles kids around. We need to keep all our schools open!

I've gone in to talk to classes a few times over the past few years and the amount of students surrounding you makes it feel like Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome. It's hard for kids to feel like teachers care when the level of personal attention drops and giving personal attention to that many kids is overwhelming.
