Unfortunately, many Parents with Children in school do not seem to be aware of these issues.

I work in the school boards and work in a class that is pretty tough. I couldnt imagine having more then the 25 kids i have.

Anything over 25 is just crowd control - learning is best when you can get to all students in a day smaller class sizes with an Ece & watch the learning levels rise

Class sizes are rediculous..... I order to carry out FDK like they want us to.... Ratios need to change.... Maybe square footage per student???

We need 20 per class to educate our children. We teach ESL, ISP/SST, behaviours, learning challenged, developmentally delayed, autistic as well as all the eager children wanting and needing to learn...let's put the children first!

We are seeing more children entering FDK with mental issues, sensory processing, autism, adhd etc. Our children deserve lower ratios to become the best they can be. FDK is a base for the rest of their education. Give them a solid base, a good start and it will help them continue their education.

Our FDLK classroom has 27 children and a few children with special needs. Very challenging to teach the curriculum as well as tending to each child's needs and behaviours, so they can be the best learners they can be! Not to mention cramped space and the noise! Last year we started with 40!!! It was insane..they finally opened a third class.

If class sizes cannot be reduced, keeping child care ratios makes the most sense to me.
It is in the best interest of the children in the class in all aspects but especially SAFETY.

not sure how people think it's ok to have large numbers in a kindergarten class! For yhe teachers it's all about behaviour control and little academics plus classes like mine, have not been retrofitted to have large number of students. Very crammed! Let's not forget within these classes we have children with special needs.

Having 30 children in our FDK class is not giving them quality programming. Its hard to spend "quality" time with each child..

As an ECE in a FDK class... I feel that there are days where you don't get to have a genuine interaction with all the children . The large classes with the behaviors that occur are hard!

What has happened to the research that has gone into developmentally appropriate practice for children in these age groups? We know that these ratio's are not in line with the old DNA, but the theory still holds that this is NOT best practice. Boo.

It's vital to children's education and enjoyment of their school experience that class sizes be reduced.

Anything over 25 becomes impossible. Noise levels sky rocket, children have no room to move and play and small group learning becomes impossible. 26 should be the HARD cap with an average of 22 IMO!

as a parent I am greatly concerned with class sizes in FDK. Why are we cramming 35 plus kids in a room? How can a teacher deliver an effective program with that many? At my sons school there has an increase in behavioural problems because there is no physical space for these students to move and also because a teacher can not attend to that many children. We need to go back to smaller class sizes to help these children socially and academically.

As a teacher in FDK, things need to change!! Starting with class size #s!! If there are expectations on us as educators to "teach" & follow a curriculum, then we need an environment in which to do so! If the government (& parents) are ok with schools just becoming a free "child dumping ground", then they will just continue doing what they are doing :( ...
