Red, not purple

I cannot understand why the school think purple will unite the schools together. If they really want do something then why not keep red (it looks really smart) & just change the logo which can then be phased in over time without a deadline???

I will not force my son to dress in purple. im sure im not the only one either whose son has said im not wearing purple its for girls

this is a very silly comment about a brick uniform, but you say you want your child to read and write properly...have you read the ofsted report that the teachers are the problem so the head should be focusing on that not causing issues with uniform.

What a ridiculous thing to say. Dress as a brick wall? No one has said they should dress like a red well! The existing junior school colours represent the red well & look incredibly smart. Maybe reduce the options (gradually) to Red shirt & black cardigan/sweatshirt rather than all the current options? Purple isn't a common colour for uniform and as someone has already pointed out not everybody has access to asda. Have you seen the purple sweatshirt at asda online with the pink stitching? It seems it was designed with girls in mind. I'm sure all the boys will feel so proud wearing it! However, the big issue is about lack of respect for the parents, we should have been consulted, given that we live in a democracy. Obviously we want the best education for our children, that goes without saying but we also deserve the right to involved with other issues too. Don't even get me started on the current changes regarding afternoon breaks in the juniors. Another issue where the parents have yet to be informed. Why are our kids feeding us this information. In my opinion that school has serious communication issues.

We were not informed about such a change, so going forward how on earth do we as parents have the confidence that this will not happen again. The bottom line is that if we no parent buys purple..we all stay red. Its simple. Too many things in this country are dictated to us...when it comes to our children our voices must be heard.

I'm more than happy to get on my soap box on here or the playground..... And I'll happily tell other parents about the petition, after all if we don't spread the word our voices will never get heard.

Well done and well spotted, Asda sell purple....yay! Although the real issue still remains that we as parents were not consulted before the big announcement.

Very confused here. If the school was called Brick Lane would that mean the uniform would have to be made out of bricks? Personally I do not care about the colour, as long as we get a long enough transition time, but I do care if my kids can read and write properly. Surely that is more important?? I have checked and Asda do purple as standard. This seems like a non issue to me

It's not so much the colour but the way in which the decision was taken seemingly without consulting those who will be funding this corporate rebranding exercise

Why make everyone buy new uniform, at least be able to continue to use the Red uniform people have already invested in.

Almost all colours are in fact just as real as any other color-with the exception of purple. Purple is an artefact of the way our eyes and brains perceive colours. So why choose purple? Also, there are so many colour/dye variants for purple that it will look odd in a school assembly. There are also logical reasons to stick with Red and avoid purple. If you look at a colour spectrum of visible light (which our children are soon going to learn) red is so prominent than a variant of violet towards the ultraviolet region. As taught in secondary school biology, thee human retina is packed with two kinds of light sensors, cones and rods. The sensitivity of the cones to red light is so high (compared to violet/blue/purple) which is good under low visibility and on our busy road crossings- Reject purple..!

How long down the line before someone realises Redwell really should be red and parents go through this all again?! The red & black uniform is very smart & gives a good impression of the school, purple really doesn't and really isn't a colour for the older boys. All of this could have been said ahead of any decision if there had been any sort of consultation with the parents.

Mrs Ansell an co, why were us parents not consulted first..... I love purple but it's just not an easy colour to buy off the peg... But more importantly Redwell School surely should have Red as uniform. After all it's in the name .... Redwell .
