Losing the recycling depot is simply stupid. There should be more recycling options, not fewer.

In addition to saving this recycling depot, alternative strategies are to implement flexible plastic bins and styrofoam bins for households and complexes. Also New West council needs to consider banning single use plastics and styrofoam in favor of biodegradable materials.

The city is breaking a central tenent of behavioural science. If you want people to behave in a certain way, make it EASY for them to behave in that way. Driving to Coquitlam is NOT easy and will deter a lot of people from recycling.

This shared recycling facility in Coquitlam is a serious inconvenience. The biggest problem with the new facility is that the access and egress to that location. Especially during the weekdays with traffic going in and out on single lanes. Plus the train crossing being very active to cause even more congestion and delays. Existing recycling facility should remain where it is or a new centrally located area within the New West.

I’m glad there is a petition.

It’s a real community gathering. Lowers carbon emissions by being close by. Should be a part of the city councils climate action plan to keep it open!!

Its hard to believe that with all the strategizing that surrounded the new OCP and the current outcry of climate crisis cost, that the city would move such an important facility to somewhere completely out of the way.

This Depot is part of the New West community. Do not shut it down!

Absolutely unacceptable for our community to have to trek to Coquitlam to dump our recycling and garden refuse - the extra time and emissions required in transit defeat the purpose.

I think that having a local recycling depot is a positive thing that the city can do to achieving recycling and climate change goals. It is also an important community service. I understand that with the Canada Games complex construction that it may be necessary to move the recycling depot but I think it should still be in New West and accessible for people who live here.

The planned move of the recycling depot will result in more materials being put in the garbage and not recycled. For a city that claims to be idle free, they are forcing residents to spend more time in traffic to recycle, ironic.

There is nothing good about driving to Coquitlam Recycle..its a highly congested traffic area without another 10 of thousands of new trips from New West residents, a real waste of time and resources, gas and wear and tear on vehicles will be more then the benefits of recycle. It just does not compute to a good plan!

The driving dangers that would increase dramatically for the to and fro should be enough to reverse this stupid decision. Large trucks, trains being two examples.

Doesn't make sense to have to drive for 30 or 40 minutes .burn gas. recycling is suppose to help the environment, this will make it worse.

My preference is to keep the depot open. Perhaps yard waste could be redirected to the proposed new location. As it is I have determined that it is not practical for me to recycle alternate plastics as the depot is not open on Mondays & Tues. when I periodically rent a car.

It's important to have recycling depot close to where we live.
