Wow! can't believe this city attitude, first cut back on public garbage cans now this? Come on people CARE about our environment!

Closing this depot means that some people will give up on recycling and just put their recyclables in the garbage instead. In 2020, when we know the effects on the environment, it simply is not acceptable to increase the risk on our environment.

Recycling is not going away. Our current model ain't broke. Leave it alone. Ideally, have 2 depots. One in Queensborough, one close to the current location. Easy accessibility is key to people recycling. Coquitlam is not easy.

When the people are doing more to fight climate change why are we closing the recycling centre. Put a new one under the Queensborough bridge.

Opposed to the closure and relocation of New West’s recycling depot. For the increasing number of us living in Queensborough, it would mean a much longer drive from one end of the city to the other. More traffic, pollution, etc.

It would be a ridiculous shame to close something so beneficial to the community.

As a resident of New Westminster, I wish to state that I believe City Council is making a huge mistake in closing this facility. I have spoken to many residents who use the current facility and it is my opinion that much of the recycled materials will now end up in the garbage rather than be taken to a new facility outside of New Westminster. Please reconsider your decision.

I strongly support the points made in this petition. Also, why are we making land availble for condos and houses that working Canadians can not afford, but we can't find land for the recycling depot needed by working Canadians ?

I am vehemently opposed to the inconvenience and further vehicle congestion driving to Coquitlam that this proposed decision will bring. This new proposed location, accessible via cars only, is absolute madness. It’s speaks of a council decision that assumes people have the means to travel to this location and will willingly choose to navigate train crossings, narrow bridges and/or freeways to get there. The current location is ideal because of how busy the community centre and pool/gym are. In other words people are already commuting to this location for recreative purposes already. It is also easily accessible by bike, on foot and by bus, unlike the proposed location. This proposed decision is a glaring and mistake but it’s not too late to replan and reimagine New Westminster’s recycling depot.

it was a mistake to move the recycling facility and goes against the very spirit of recycling by substantially increasing everyone’s carbon footprint that chooses to use it.

I have been coming here for years for boxes, plastic, batteries lightbulbs styrofoam glass etc. weekly. This is an extremely important little spot that helps greatly for the environment - you can’t tell me the City can’t find this same space somewhere (like behind Canada games pool for example or some other spot close by...pls find it!!!

More recyclables will end up in the garbage. New West needs its own recycle station.

Mayor and council are over reaching with this decision. This was likely brought to council from Bureaucrats not living in our city or perhaps live in apartments where they don’t have to deal with our recycling centre.
Increased traffic at an already congested intersection.
As I understand there is a cost to dump green waste.
The city has lost its way with current management as well city council.
Citizens are invited to capital cost meeting when the dealing input should be residence voting on day to day operation budget.

This relocation is senseless and will cost more in carbon fuel for users.
