Another unsound decision made against, the taxpayers of N.W
by the distracted, city officials
and their advisors.
The above are picking up pennies
in front of a steam roller on this one!

Removing this recycling depot would be a step backwards.

Kids parks, dog parks, community centres and our favourite recycling depot. Hands off the good stuff, city hall!

I am appalled that New Westminster would wash its hands of this local responsibility. Metro traffic is terrible, so having an in-city facility is also ecological. Given a poll of the residents, few would approve of this planned move.

My recycling will be going in the garbage if this goes through. Coquitlam is not normally a part of my weekend.

Please keep this recycling station. It’s what our community needs to continue keeping our city beautiful!

City should set an example and encourage local recycling in a convenient location. Incorporate the center into the design of a community facility - if Canada Games area doesn't work, find another local location.

This would clearly hurt the environment further as more and more people are looking at the trash rather than recycling. Travelling to Coquitlam is not the solution. A public's consultation should warrant the council's decision to make such a move.

Build more towers- they have their own recycling in the buildings. Ta-da! No need for a recyucling centre then!

If you want to have people recycle make it easier. Making it harder, will just encourage people to throw it away in their normal trash. Very short-sighted

Why would a city close the recycling depot?? At the very least, move it if the issue is about the land use??

More than short sighted, it's irresponsible. Less people will recycle with unintended consequences being less focus on all aspects of energy conservation. A community recycling depot brings like-minded citizens together and fosters environmental practices in other areas.
Was told by new West councillor that Pool parking lot was a revenue generator and a new Recycling facility would reduce that revenue and it was too costly / impossible to build underground parking. Build up with stacked lot and increase parking and usable space. Just ask recycling employees their opinion and they will tell you exactly where the space can be found. Loss of civic employee who like most of us spends his money in New West.
Well at least we have bike lanes which will balance our net environmental footprint with the loss of our community recycling.

I'm a resident of New West and use the depot all the time. It'd be a shame top close it down. It seems well used.

I will be more reluctant to recycle as I currently do, if I have to travel to Coquitlam

Recycling Depots need to be a necessity, especially for the future.
