Don’t Let New West City Hall Put Our Recycling Depot in the Trash!

This needs to be stopped

Please keep recycling convenient for New Westminster Residents.

Please let us recycle!!!

The depot makes recycling a part of my family’s routine given the convenience and helpful staff. It would be a shame to see it go, especially when it is so frequently used!

I’ve been using this depot for for years, if it were to close it would lead to more people taking easier avenues then recycling. Like just tossing recyclables into the garbage. It makes recycling so much easier. Plus the staff are amazingly helpful there.

The New West recycling centre has been an easily accessible and bi-monthly destination for me since moving here in the late ‘90’s in order to be able to recycle as fully as possible. It’s location has been an important aspect of its community accessibility. People can and do walk there. The lack of community consultation on its move is unacceptable.

Recycling shouldn’t be a luxury for those with cars. We need this close to home.

I suggest that we transport the council team to the Coquitlam dump and leave them there.

I find it ridiculously shortsighted to close a popular and well-used recycling facility in a city the size of New West. We should be building more of them not forcing residents to drive to another city to dispose of items that can be recycled and shouldn’t just go into the trash. Many people aren’t car owners (and good for them!), and the Coquitlam depot is completely inaccessible to them. Not to mention, driving there is not easy either - there always seems to be a train or big trucks blocking up traffic. Please keep our local depot open!

My family uses the current recycling depot at the New West pool regularly, it has been amazing and does not take up very much room at all for what they are able to provide. When I saw the designs for the new pool and community center in the news I was excited but extremely disappointed to learn that the recycling center is to be eliminated in the process. It is sad that a few parking spaces could not be spared in the design to continue to make recycling a priority of the community center area. Our world is facing dire climate change, we have been too slow to take serious action. We need to remind ourselves of how fragile we are, and build our communities in a way that is as forward thinking as possible. Please take a moment to consider whether there can be any change in decision regarding this recycling depot.

We need to keep our services close by to promote a great sens of community.

It's the lowliest of the REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE trio, but it still needs to stay!

Its never too late for Mayor and Council to say we made a mistake and keep the recycling depot in New Westminster.

Like everyone else, I am vehemently opposed to the decision to close the recycling depot. It's is an unacceptable, irresponsible and shameful decision by Council, and is based solely on saving money and not for what is best for this community. Where are your priorities?!

It needs to stay!! At least a portion of the everyday items!!!

People will just start throwing recyclables into the garbage.
