I use this weekly due to new west curb side not taking glass. the 'relocation' is way to far away as well.

Very short-sighted by this city council and Mayor. They do what they want and the heck with the rest of us. There is more than enough room at the new aquatic centre to keep the recycling depot right where it is! They just don't want an "ugly" depot in front of their shiny new swimming pool. Talk about NIMBY... I bet that even if the citizens sign the heck out of this petition that it won't change a thing. Time to vote these people out and get a Mayor and councilors who are more responsive to all the citizens of the city, not just their supporters.

Closing the NW depot makes no sense, and it will result in more recyclables ending up in the garbage. Driving to Coquitlam uses more gas and is so inconvenient and time-consuming that many people who now visit the NW depot regularly, will not travel to Coquitlam.

Either keep our recycling depo close or start picking up all the stuff I take to the depo...glass,styro, soft plastics ect

This decision is extremely short sighted. This world needs to encourage more recycling, and yet it is to become less convenient?

I confess that I won't be driving to Coquitlam with a couple of empty jam and mayo jars. They'll be going in the trash now, along wtih my extra plastic bags. :( And I will miss chats with the friendly people at the depot, who are never too busy to say hello and ask if they can help you. Not to mention the beautiful old trees that are inevitably going to be destroyed to make room for the new parking lots. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I only recently found out about it. I planned on using it as much as possible. Was disappointed to hear it was under scrutiny.

We need to be working towards more local green initiatives, not removing them. Keep the Recycling Center is New Westminster!

Sadly without this local recycling center I will be less likely inclined to recycle as much as I currently am able to do.

We hardly have any garbage due to us recycling. We go to the depot biweekly after fitness class at the Comminity Centre. It's so convenient! Going to Coquitlam will be very inconvenient! There's room for a depot in Queens Park between Bernie Legge theatre & the south grass field, where all the piles of soil & bark mulch are!

New west needs to be a leader of green initiatives rather than adding barriers to recycling. A Coquitlam centre is not where I want my tax dollars going

Would be a shame to close this facility down. For many, the inconvenience of the proposed new location will cause a lot of recycling material to wind up the garbage bins. For those with out a car, the present location is extremely convenient, on a bus route and centrally located.

Moving this depot would be a big mistake. Bringing more congestion to braid st is truly idiotic. Time for the city to do something right for once and keep the recycling depot in its current location otherwise people will just throw things out instead.

I think the depot should stay in New West

The current recycling is of utmost importance to our condo building. Volunteers from our building diligently take recyclable materials to the current depot. The new location will mean a much longer drive and we will have difficulties asking volunteers to take more precious time from their already busy schedule.

Suggest the city explore smaller walkable drop off locations for soft plastics, glass, styrofoam, batteries. For larger items including green waste the regional facility is fine.

The Recycling Depot is more important than a bigger parking! Asking residents to go up to Coquitlam is counter productive.
