Tell the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Local 2620 (AFSCME 2620) to SUPPORT the Recreation Therapy Licensure Act Bill.

The California Business and Professions Code 17505.2, requires individuals practicing Recreation Therapy or calling themselves Recreation Therapists to be certified or eligible for certification.

While Recreation Therapyhas the potential to be beneficial for persons served, it also has the potential to cause harm if not practiced according to the most current Recreation Therapy professional standards and ethical guidelines. The issue of protecting the public from harm resulting from unregulated Recreational Therapy practice is the most important basis for legal recognition. Regulation of practice through licensure will ensure that Recreation Therapy is provided to the pubic by qualified and competent practitioners.

Licensure for Recreational Therapy currentlybeing sought in Califronia. Licensure will ensure that only people who are properly credentialed can practiceRecreation Therapy. This helps protect the public from harm.

Send this to all your fellow union members. Any AFSCME or Fair-Share employee can sign the petition. The louder we are the more we will be heard!

The focus remains on ensuring that professional standards are upheld to protect the public from substandard practice. I am currently preparing to present these collected signatures to the local leadership team to initiate a formal conversation about the necessity of this licensure.

The building momentum for this petition reflects a clear consensus regarding the necessity of professional standards in our field. This collective interest provides a strong foundation as we prepare to present our concerns to the union leadership.

Unregulated care is a disaster waiting to happen. Do the right thing and back the licensure bill.
