I believe that alum should be able to utilize the beautiful Rec center! Saint Mary's has been my home for 4 years. Allowing alums to use the center would incentivize us to continue coming back to the campus and participate in the community!

I couldn't agree more. As a member of the class of 2015, I only got a few short months of use. And many of my friends from previous classes didn't even have that luxury. I would love to go back and be able to utilize those beautiful facilities!

I know this issue is a 'temporal' one but forever Saint Mary's has embodied the the principles of community and inclusion. They have also been awarded the honor of being one of the few Nation's "Colleges That Change Lives". This embodiment of nurturing and guiding the "whole" student and lifelong alumni is Saint Mary's mission and to deny the alumni to use this facility is in direct contradiction with Saint Mary's Lasallian values. This may seem like a small issue but it stands out in light of the mission of this school and suggests a lessening of the Spirit of Saint Mary's that we have come to know. Please allow all alumni to have the use of this facility as they have earned with their dedication, contributions, support, participation study, and love of the Saint Mary's College and Saint Mary's Family and Community. It can only benefit the school , students and alumni.

For a school that promotes its alumni engagement and network, it's completely ridiculous that local Gaels aren't allowed access to this recreation center.

They promised this open my Freshman year. By the time I graduated, they finally opened it up and I couldn't get in. Let alumni in.

The Rec Center was built while I, a graduate of 2015, was attending SMC. I lived next to a construction site for a year in the lower townhouses my junior year, but was only able to use the rec center for a few months at the end of my junior year of college. I think that recent grads should have access to the rec center, even if that access is restricted to prioritize availability for current student use. An opportunity for students and grads to commingle in the rec center setting would invariably lead to a stronger flow of graduates into a tight-knit alumni community.

I am upset by how long this construction took. I graduated in May of 2015 and only was able to use the facility twice, despite being constantly told otherwise throughout my years at SMC.

We were told we always had a home at Saint Mary's....but no access to the rec center? Doesn't seem right

I am a recent 2016 grad. Last semester I spent most of my time at the rec center with friends. It would be great if I could reunite with them at this favorite place of ours.

I was shocked to see this petition and just assumed that alumni would have some privileges at the Joseph Alioto Recreation Center as most colleges and universities across the country already have. The Class of 2016 had to wait a long time and see the construction of this facility from the ground up until it was completed recently. To deny them access now is not in the Lasallian spirit of Saint Mary's which as such an emphasis on community , family, spiritual connection and social justice. Please allow alumni to use this facility with some sort of membership plan. This is the Saint Mary's way ! Thank you

Alumni should be able to use these facilities without a doubt. It's such a large facility that is never over crowded so I've never understood the push back. Allowing alumni to use these facilities aligns with the SMC core values and should highly be considered.

I'm gonna be paying off the debt for a while, least they can do to ease the burden is let us use the damn center we were promised.

When I entered SMC in 2011 we were promised a new Rec Center by Spring '13. The Joseph Alioto Recreation Center opened in Spring '15. I barely got to use it before I left SMC, it was like some sick teaser. After graduation, I was barred entry, I was pretty bummed out about it.
