I've been watching the Standign Committee of Finance, I am surprised by some of the committee member's lack of knowledge of the mortgage industry. Listen to what these 38 witnesses are telling you.

I thought our economy was built on competition. Why pick on one industry.

The rule changes that were implemented without any consultation with the professionals of the industry are proving to have the exact opposite effect of no doubt what the Canadian government had intended. The very people that they want to help are being impacted adversely and the division of wealth is further increasing. Am area of focus really should be unsecured high interest debts which are multiples of times more expensive, they have far less standards and regulations ( how can a guy with 2000 per month Mortgage payment making 64k a year be able to afford 850 dollar per month car Lease).

All comments are correct and introducing legislation to an industry without consultation on the effects to the consumer has been detrimental

We need to ensure that these changes are in the best interests of Canadian home owners. Canadians need mortgage options and these changes clearly reduces their options.

After 17 years in the Mortgage Business it is very disturbing that the consumer options and mono line lenders are being jeopardized and banks will prosper. Something wrong with this picture who is the DOF working for?

Working with Canadians on a day to day basis trying to obtain the goal of home ownership, I see more people not able to purchase their how home, and this is truly not ok for the governent to hinder them in this way.

We need to ensure a level playing field so Canadian consumers are the winners.

These changes will result in increased interest rate costs to the middle class. The very people the government proports to be supporting. the very products they have taken away from the marketplace are those that created competition to the big banks held them accountable to consumers.
