Some roads in Dunstable were too slow at 30 let alone 20! No I am not a racer, or someone who breaks speed limits but some roads you feel the need you should be going faster. The roads that were 30 were fine at 30. There weren't many accidents at all in Dunstable. It seems everytime a road is dug up it gets changed to 20... It's stupid..

The new 20mph does make a huge difference when you are trying to cross a busy road (ie Langdale Road) during school runs.
It's not all about people in their cars. Pedestrian safety needs to be considered also, particularly in a big residential area.

20mph is fine across the schools but changing. Main roads to 20 mph is ridiculous the signs are smaller than normal so you miss them. 30 mph is the correct speed

The new 20mph speed limit is ridiculous. It is an 'easy' way out of dealing with the problem of motorists who previously broke the 30mph speed limit. The problem is they will still break the 20mph speed limit and nothing will be achieved.
I do find I have to concentrate more on the speedo on the roads with speed camera's because especially in today's modern cars it is so easy to exceed 20mph without even trying to. I believe this is more of a danger.
Also, the fact that technology in cars has been improving not only year on year but almost month on month since our prehistoric speed limits were brought in. Cars now have the ability to stop themselves without driver intervention and yet we are reducing speed limits. I could understand if accident rates were high but they aren't.

I agree, this is a total nightmare, and I am watching my speedo rather than the road!

Around schools 20 is fine I agree what a waste money, money would of been better spent doing something about the accident waiting to happen out side beecroft school now there's a real problem ....rat running still happens.

There is no evidence of reduced collisions or casualties attributable to 20mph limits.

I've been through some of the use 20 zones and it's worrying when someone is driving so close behind that if I was to brake they would end up hitting me and feeling forced to speed up so that they are not so close but trying to stay at the limit at the same time

Why have speed camera's as well on a 20mph road,is this to gain more money from drivers. but i think around schools is ok for a 20mph zone but I here people saying that they cant get used to the new limit as they passed there test knowing the speed limits was 30mph.seems daft to change it now.

Concentrate far too much on not getting a ticket for speeding or minding my car's rear end from other drivers who haven't noticed the signs.
Speed bumps and cameras are around so why the need for 20?!

I total agree, it is a danger, there are already speed camera's in place so why the need for 20mph speed limit? I agree the limit should be lowered near schools, but not anywhere else!

I am a responsible driver and agree that due to the new 20mph speed limit in Dunstable I now monitor my speedometer more than is necessary, constantly concerned that I might be fined.

Driving this slowly does not make any improvement to road safety.
It does, however, destroy the air quality as engines are using more fuel to travel the same distance than they would in higher gears.
Well done Council.
Actually killing more people than you save with such stupid actions.
The 20 mile an hour limit is a General Solution to a Specific Problem and that is the sign of Morons in Action.
Rather than tackling the main problem of bad driving and recklessness you attempt to criminalise otherwise perfectly safe drivers who will now be concentrating less on road safety and more on saving their licences.

I feel the introduction of 20mph speed limits is more dangerous to pedestrians and cyclists because as a driver i now spend more time looking at my speedo than the road. I am not even able to use my cruise control to assist me as it does not work at such a slow speed. I have also noticed more people speed up between cameras than before which when all areas are considered the 20ph zones in my opinion have made the roads more dangerous.

a 20mph speed limit is ridiculous, unnecessary and will cause more accidents than it will prevent... those who broke the speed limit at 30mph will ignore a 20mph speed limit just the same.

The new 20 mph speed is totally ridiculous. It has proved to be more of a danger rather than an asset where safety is concerned. I believe it to be an empowering movement by the council no more no less.
