We were successful in forcing the prior example of such blatant repudiation of our Cathlicity, Roxanne Martino. This latest attempt to repeat is a deliberate attempt to taint the Trustees with secular, not Catholic ideals. We must stand firm again and resist this appointment. .

We cannot in good conscience ignore this insult to the Catholic identity of ND which has already been greatly weakened by action that is at cross purposes with the university's obligation to be a guiding light for American Catholics.

Notre Dame's standing as a Catholic university and its commitment to the faith it professes, both internally and for all of America to see, requires that this trustee appointment be reversed.

Ms. Washington's open defiance of the Church's teachings brings to mind Luke 16:13: No servant can serve two masters... He will ... be devoted to one and despise the other. From her pronouncements, it's clear which she despises. No place for such a person on the Board of Trustees.

As an alum and parent, I am dismayed at the direction of our beloved University, as in its hubris it continue to stray from Catholic teaching. Pretty soon it will simply be "in the Catholic tradition" I suppose. Notre Dame - you cannot serve two masters so please, serve HER SON!
A sad day fot all.
