Reconsider SBOE appointment of Matthew Brown

Our children's education is too important to have someone inexperienced making decisions.

It is written into law that to be appointed to the new charter school commission (that can override local school boards), you must demonstrate a belief in and commitment to charter schools. And we're supposed to accept this political appointment of someone with no knowledge of or belief in public education? It's shameful and insulting. Unfortunately, there are those in power who would see our schools struggle and our people suffer. Email and call the governor. Write to all state board members that you value public education and that you are a voter. Contact your legislators. Educate your peers and vote! We, the people, must use our voice.

Our public school students deserve better from Gov. Bentley.

please reconsider this appointment. Alabama's children need someone who will work for them!

Is it right for someone who did not attend public school and won't send his kids to public school to make decisions about public schools in our state? I think not-please remove Matthew Brown from the ALBOE!

He's trying to stack the board so he can repeal the high standards. He can't get it done nor his cronies.

Matthew Brown is NOT the right person for this job. I urge you to reconsider this appointment.

Mr. Brown is not qualified for this position!

Definitely would be happier with someone who has positive investment in public schools for our state.

This appointment is an obvious slap in the face for public education, parents who support it, and teachers who dedicate their lives to their students.

Please consider someone who has experience BUILDING something, rather than simply creating discord and ultimately harming our system.

This appointment is a disaster.

Someone with at least some education experience needs to be in this post. Alabama is so uneducated it thinks that any taxes are bad taxes... the typical Alabamian doesn't even know what taxes are used for. They don't think ahead when thinking that education funding might actually be a good thing. They can't do the simple math to understand how little money the proposed taxes this joker shot down with no further plans to educate anyone is. Why? Because they are uneducated. Alabama might as well be one of those countries that sends their kids overseas to get a decent education. Unless we do something about it besides continue voting for people, and with people, and supporting people, who support the ignorance of the poor.

Governor Bently, please reconsider this appointment.

How can anybody appoint someone that has no idea what public schools do and are trying to kill public schools APPOINT them to public school board. DUH!!! What the (blank) is going on. Doesn't anybody in leadership use common since.

When the community no longer supports the schools, the community suffers. Mr. Brown did not support our schools, and therefore he does not support our community. We live in an area because the schools are good, the community is safe, therefore it is a perfect place to raise our children. When you vote against funding for our schools, you hurt the entire community. Please reconsider this appointment of Mr. Brown, because he does not support our community or our schools. "Communities also can furnish schools -- and the students in them -- with crucial financial support systems as well as the social and cultural values necessary for success and survival in contemporary society" (Mattessich & Monsey, 1993; MDC, Inc., 1991; Miller, 1991).

Governor Bentley, This appointment of Matthew Brown To Alabama State Board of Education is without doubt a terrible appointment. Please reconsider his appointment. Get someone who has been in or has kids in Public schools. He has no business in this position. His only interest in Public education is to destroy it...... Not the RIGHT MAN FOR THE JOB.

We need experienced professionals addressing education issues in Alabama.
