Nobody 28 years old is qualified for this kind of appointment. The governor must be out of his mind. Take it from a 25 year old professional. This appointment was probably a political favor to a certain Baldwin Co. state legislator.

While Matt Brown may be a good man, he is NOT the right man for this position. Please consider a person who is vested in public education in Alabama, who has experience and has an education degree.

Though I do not know much about the other counties in our District 1, I do know about the Mobile County and the Baldwin County School Systems. Between our two counties, we have around 90,000 students with over 130 schools. We have International Baccalaureate schools at Davidson and Murphy High Schools in Mobile and at Daphne and Fairhope High Schools in Baldwin. Mobile County has started having Signature Academies such as the EPIC, Pre-Engineering, program at Davidson and the Aerospace program at B.C. Rain. Baker High, which has approximately 2,800 students, is the second largest high school in the state after Hoover; that would be like putting all the citizens of the City of Bayou la Batre in one school. I believe that Mobile County high schools have the highest number of AP scholars in the whole state. My comments do not even include the other counties and their schools in our district. We can NOT afford to have someone on the Alabama School Board who is not very knowledgeable about public schools. Though I graduated from private school, I attended public schools from 1-6 and I taught in public schools for 24 years. These students are our FUTURE!!! And WE, the citizens of District 1, DESERVE BETTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is sad that Gov. Bentley appointed a person that has voiced so much negativity against public education when there were candidates available that were more qualified such as Terry Burkle.
