To use the original indigenous names of ancient landmarks connects us to the ecosystem and an understanding of where we are living. The history and understanding in the aanishnaabe name is too important for our future life on this continent. What do we lose if we do not remember and place this ancient knowledge back into our memory? Change the name!

Please change the names to honor our native history. So lucky we still have access to this information and that we are able to correct a wrong that was committed. Our native history and language must be preserved it is our legacy and sets these special places apart.

I support this name change as a show of respect for the original stewards and protectors of this land. And as a step towards recovering at least some of what was lost as a result of the ruthless colonization of this land.

Anishinaabe is a wonderful and sadly declining language and this is a wonderful way to preserve some of it.

Marquette politicians could show respect for indigenous roots by changing these place-names to something more historically authentic.

I am very pleased to sign on in support of this name change. As a descendant of European settlers of this region, I feel great sadness at all that has been lost of the beauty, knowledge, and wisdom of those who knew this place best. Returning to the original names of the special places in this area would restore a tiny fragment of all that. And how much more interesting!
