LET OUR CHILDREN PLAY: DAILY RECESS FOR ALL FLORIDA OSCEOLA COUNTY SCHOOL CHILDREN & THE ENTIRE STATE OF FLORIDA

Someone I know from Michigan/ up North stated that same thing Angei, that daily recess is common practice! I don't know what happened to Florida but Florida needs to have the same thing the schools up North are doing which is daily recess. Thanks for your support and signature!

Dear Teacher, thank you for your support and signature. Educators know what is best for our children and daily recess is one of them. Schools now are so data driven as shown by the enormous amount of testing done on our children. If we are so data driven, why are our policy makers in education, our school board members & administration ignoring the research that clearly shows that daily recess s crucial to a child's development and learning? It seems to me that there is a double standard here. If we follow the data, if we follow the research and use evidence based practice, clearly implementing daily recess is a no brainer.

Yes KIM, I agree with you and it is incredulous that this is an issue. Our children have a basic right to play. If workers are not given a break, it is called an unfair labor practice and a potential lawsuit can be slapped to the employer. Children labor at school for 6 1/2 to 7 hours a day and deserve a recess, a break, a reset button like we adults need too. Who is speaking for our children when they cannot YET argue their case for recess? IT IS UP TO US INVOLVED & EDUCATED PARENTS. I thank you for your signature & support!

Daily recess, that unstructured free play in our schools has been found to be crucial to our children's success not only in academics but more importantly, in their successful ability to resolve conflicts, in their development socially, emotionally, & cognitively ( increased focus & attention).

Yes Alisha, I agree with you. Time is slipping by as our children go through school without daily recess, and their childhood slowly slipping away. If this isn't done soon enough, our children will age out of elementary school without experiencing the benefits of daily recess. DAILY RECESS, DAILY FREE PLAY AT SCHOOL IS A BASIC RIGHT FOR OUR CHILDREN.

This shouldn't even be an issue. There are child labor laws fir working minors. These are CHILDREN, not machines. They need their free play time at school!

Recess is fundamentally important for a child's healthy development. We keep trying to look at other countries who are outscoring us on tests, such as Finland. Why then are we not trying to emulate what they are doing? Finland offers mini-breaks and free play for their kids. Do whats right. Remember when you were in school. There is suppose to be some joy and fun in learning. We are taking it away, making robots

All school children in the State of Florida need to be given the right to take a brain break and just be kids every day! We demand it for the mental, physical, and social health of our youth!!

Research shows how essential recess is. As teachers we attest to it.
