As a kindergarten teacher it breaks my heart not to give my students recess. It is necessary and they suffer without it

Schools should follow the recommendations of professionals when choosing curriculums and schedules. The facts are very clear and proven over and over again that children perform better and learn more when given these breaks.

Please give these children a break if you expect them to do well academically. We all need down time. It's no different for children. They are our future. It's time we take care of them emotionally, mentally, and physically.

Please continue to share this petition to family, friends, neighbors to raise awareness on the lack of recess in our schools and to gain more support to bring daily recess back to our children! On Tuesday Nov. 3rd 5:30 PM, I and other involved parents are attending the Osceola County School Board meeting (817 Bill Beck Boulevard Kissimmee Fl ) to raise the need for the Board to set a policy that will allow all our elementary children to get recess everyday at our schools.

Our kids need time to play with there school friends. They are not in jail and that's how they feel... School is about learning and interacting with other school friends without being punished for talking or have a good laugh at lunch.... How was it for you when you where a kid ?

This should be a no brainer. Children not only develop better when allowed unstructured playtime, they also are more productive and better suited to learn new material.

Recess is as important as reading, writing and math. Active daily vigorous physical active choices within a playful setting brings the opportunity for both kids and teens to become, and stay physically and brain fit. Also socially active. Many students don't have the opportunity for outdoor play after school, due to modern issue of the day. Quality school recess has the unique chance of saving play.

Research shows that children need 60+ minutes out doors daily for large- and small-motor movement, play, and vestibular balance activities, along with opportunities to challenge distance vision and depth perception. Childhood is also the peak time for bone-building, which is driven by weight bearing activities.

Increase recess time for elementary schools and PE classes for middle school

Kids come home with homework, chores, dinner and bed. When do they play? My 6 yr old grandson takes bus at 8am, home at 4:30. All day and no time for play? It is important to their development.

I'm all for it!

We need more recess. Kids will be more focused in the classroom if they get to burn the energy outdoor and socialize with their peers. PE isn't a substitute for recess.

Yes Michele, our schools need to start paying attention to the research that daily recess increases our children's focus and attention span thereby increasing their capacity for learning and memory retention. With the increased rigors our children are facing academically, it only makes sense to give them daily recess so they can have the stamina for learning.
