Hello fellow Scratchers!
As many of you may have noticed, Scratch has become a toxic place in the last few years and people have been focusing on fame more than imagining, programming and sharing.
I have started a petition that will encourage the Scratch Team to change the name of the "followers" counter to "friends", (basically friend request system) because every little detail has the power to make a difference!
This minor change will in turn encourage Scratchers to focus on fun instead of fame and will suppress the fame problem on Scratch.

How will we make this possible?
Just enter your name (I suggest your Scratch username) and your email address (this won't be visible to anyone). Then you can add a comment if you wish (optional).
Please try to share the petition with your friends and fellow Scratchers to spread the word! We need to let the Scratch Team know about this. Putting this petition in a link on your profile would be a huge contribution!
Our current goal is 1000 signatures. If we reach this goal and the Scratch Team doesn't change the "followers" counter to the friend request system, then we will set a bigger one. Then once we reach that one and the Scratch Team still doesn't change it, we will make the goal even bigger and so on, until we reach victory.
Once you've signed, I ask you to go to the "Contact Us" page on the Scratch website. (https://scratch.mit.edu/contact-us/) Then scroll down to the "Need Support?" section and press "Get Help". Click the "Contact us" button under the "Got questions?" panel. After that, set the topic to "Suggestion for Scratch" and the subject to "Changing the 'Followers' counter to the friend request system", and write a clear description what the problem is and what we are requesting the Scratch Team to do. Please don't spam the Scratch Team members' profiles with comments about the petition. Thanks for your help!

I would like you all to contribute to this new movement I'd like to call the Anti Scratch Fame movement by making your own little petition or movement or something that will turn this toxicity around. I agree. Scratch was made for fun and to learn, not to get famous. Some people even impersonate other people who have a lot of followers just to get popular!
yes! i would love instead of a follow button you send a friend request and the other person can accept or decline
I agree! This site has turned into hate and arguments, and that needs to change. I had to delete my first acc because someone was toxic about me having more followers than them! Thanks for making this :3
This is a great initiative. True, now Scratch is making us feel we need more "followers" and "fame." I am a victim of it, and I am unable to get rid of that feeling. This will help me, and other Scratchers who think Scratch is all about followers and fame.
I support this scratch was not made for there to be a popularity contest it was made for scratchers to find people that have the same interests as them.

This definitely deserves to be changed back. It was called "friends" once, and it wasn't a toxic community. But now that they're called followers, people are doing things for fame and not for fun. I completely agree.
