After several requests from residents of Churchtown, Castlemitchell, Kilberry, Kildangan, Monastrevin and all surrounding Townlands the Labour Party Branch in Athy and Kildare South have decided to progress with a petition to revert our General Election area back to Kildare from Laois.

It makes no sense whatsoever to have people in Kildare voting for Laois Candidates in a General Election, especially as they are represented at Council level by Kildare County Council. We need to change this now.

We are running a two pronged petition, one on social media and the other is door to door calling over the coming days and weeks. We would dearly appreciate your support.

Thank You.

We the undersigned urgently request that our General Election Electoral area be reverted to the County of Kildare.
We did not agree to have our vote moved into the Laois constituency ,we were never consulted and feel that as Residents of Kildare that our interests are best served in this County .

We just hit 100 signatures and the message to the Constituency Commission is getting loud. The bureaucrats in charge of these maps ignored us for too long but they cannot keep pretending these neighborhoods belong in Laois.

How could we be expected to vote for people that we don't know and who doesn't know us. We should be able to vote for a candidate who works on our behalf all year round

It makes no sense to move a sliver of about 2,000 voters into a county that doesn't represent them on a local level. There is no justification in silencing them unless there a policy that requires it.

Further to continuous representations from neighbours and constituents , I ask the commission to restore this area into Kildare South as a 3 or 4 seater as a result of the census .

The new divide is exactly that a negative divide leaving an area of Kildare with no representation After years of decent and local representative , the only one to benefit is Laois it's off the wall and must be changed , Don't know what bright spark thought up this one maybe same As Irish water

A county is defined by its borders . Why are peoples voting rights being infringed upon ? Only in Ireland would you get this .... being basically forced to vote in Laois when you clearly live and are registered to vote in Kildare . Where is the logic ? .
