This must be reversed! I don't understand the board's decision to disarm. SRO's are trained professionals, please treat them as such!

i’m a student at south and i think if the security guard had a weapon on them we would be safer. Especially after the tragedy in Michigan and the past two lockdowns

As I understand it, prior to the school board's decision to disarm the SROs last spring, the only individuals that carried a firearm were those that were properly trained to do so. Also, they made certain to wear attire that kept it concealed, so not to draw attention to themselves as well as insure not to scare anyone, just from the sight of it. It is also my understanding that the later must not have been good enough for the individual or individuals that pressured the board to make this decision, apparently without a complete review of all aspects or the overall safety consideration of the students, teachers, staff and members of the board. Some may question why members of the board, well they have put themselves in a liable position if even one individual is harmed on school grounds, because they did not provide those that they hire to protect all the tools to do so. Having someone uncomfortable or even scared is a small price to pay to insure the safety of everyone. Don't get me wrong, heaven forbid we turn our schools into prisons with armed forces at every door, hall and room. Children have enough pressure, don't let their own safety be one of them.

Please share this on social media however you can! The stronger this petition is the stronger our voices are. Also, email the board members! They need to hear from all of you individually. Their job is to represent us as elected officials, not make decisions based on bias and emotion.

Our first responders need to have the tools to protect our children.

According to BPD, the school board made this decision without seeking any law enforcement expertise.

The main issue it seems to be is the lack of conversation and collaboration before this decision was made. If the needed dialogue happened ahead of time a common and collaborative plan might have been made.

To have unarmed Police Officers is like having firemen without water or hoses....pointless. MCCSC is being negligent in the protection of our children.

Not a gun person, and I believe these school resource officers need to be trained PROPERLY AND ACCURATELY in gun safety, but I also believe there is a need for there to be a deterrent from violence and to protect those who could be victims of such violence. I don't believe in a lockdown situation having no firearms can be more effective than not having them.

Gun free zones are where people go to kill others.
