How consent and sexual assault education isn't automatic every time we assemble a bunch of adolescents into tight quarters is kind of mind boggling.

Unacceptable in everyway. Best of luck moving forward with the administration.

Get with it; it's 2015. Rape isn't funny.

This is so frustrating to hear. I participated in Explore in 2001. Part of my work today includes education about sexual assault prevention on university campuses. What has happened here and the lack of appropriate response from the administration is inexcusable. This is now a huge distraction for people who want to be learning a language and now instead have to fight to get an appropriate response. The Explore program needs to step up and listen to the participants.

Absolutely absurd that this happens in a government-funded environment. As a teaching mechanism. Embarrassing and shameful.

I think this behaviour is not acceptable at all and it is important for women to call out this injustice.

This is very important, especially at an educational institute or any organization, such as Explore.

I attended explore at UdeM in 2014. There were several sexual assault incidents that went unpunished until the students started a petition much like this one.

It amazes me that the members of the administration think it is okay to make a joke about something as terrible as rape. I hope this petition can be the start of addressing these problematic attitudes!

This happened, but it was arguably worst at Université de Montréal when I was at Explore in July 2014. There was a creep who got into the residences and sexualky harassed a number of female students and along with some sexual assault cases. The admin kept us in the dark for 7-8 days before they gave us minimal detail. Friends and fellow students didn't really feel safe going to the bathrooms and showering at night because the rumour mill spread so far without any address from the Explore admin. It took us signing a physical petition with over 200 signatures and notifying the SU, residence services, the SU (FACUM), campus security, and the President's Office before they decided to do an assembly. They promised to improve their education and policies around sexual harassment/assault, but I'm pretty skeptical about the follow-through because they just had to wait us out. I clearly remember that there was no apology from the head Explore person, but what can you do?

This behaviour is unacceptable. Universities should take a pro-active stance in providing rape prevention education. In this case, not telling girls not to be raped but informing all students in the importance of consent.

holding universities accountable for their contradictory behaviour, often flaunting internal ignorance as they demand student who pay them to simply swallow everything they're told including callous bigotry is ESSENTIAL for overhauling the system. Smarten up, Trois Rivieres.

This needs to change. Now.

By no means should rape be seen in any form of comedy. Rape should not be tolerated at any circumstances. This issue should be dealt with in a stronger manner.

It is NEVER a joke when you talk about rape.

Unfortunately, I, too, brought up concerns with the head of my J'Explore program in Quebec City after sitting through many inappropriate and unacceptable comments made by my instructor during my time in this program. J'Explore definitely needs to completely overhaul its administration and create an inclusive and safe environment for all students. Thank you for creating this petition. I am so sorry for the awful things you experienced during your time in Trois-Rivieres.
