Champlain Parkway Now a 50 Year-Old Unsafe Design. Let's Change It Before It's Too Late!
The current $47.1 million Champlain Parkway design violates the latest now decade-old Environmental Impact Statement (EIS). Two lawsuits seek to bring the Parkway into compliance with current laws and community needs. The lawsuits objective is forces a complete public re-design of the Parkway to address safety, connectivity, costs, and climate change. One mind-numbing flaw is dead-ending Pine Street short of Queen City Park Road. A common-sense alternative? A roundabout connecting Queen City Park Rd., Pine St. and the Parkway!
Governor Scott, Federal Highway, Mayor Weinberger, I support Champlain Parkway re-design to make it a safer and more friendly thoroughfare for driving, biking and walking. The current antiquated design is wasteful and dangerous. I support building a roadway that makes sense and our City can love!

Please slow this down and rethink the old design for all the reasons you already know from others who have spoken. I am a biker and want a lane so that we can reduce car traffic! Also-- I want to use Pine street, not dead end it! Round abouts are wonderful. See Montpelier as an example. No dead end means allowing us to use the Kmart back route!
This project is an out-dated boondoggle. The South End has changed materially in the last ten years, and failure to recognize this is ridiculous. The city has failed to respond to citizens' concerns so many times over the last seven years that I am fearful that this practice will continue.
I live in the Lakeside neighborhood and have been dreading the day this horrible plan actually happens. Dead ending into the parking lot behind us is not the answer it will only gridlock Lakeside & Pine, create more pollution around the area and create more hazards for pedestrians and cyclists.
The current design is harmful to the growing and evolving Pine St. corridor. Antiquated ideas of prioritizing truck traffic above pedestrian and bike traffic is abhorrent, Burlington can and must do better!
Connecting this ancient albatross to Burlington is a terrible idea. I can't conceive of any planner proposing to dump a two-lane highway into a residential neighborhood was a solution for anything. We need to analyze our existing street patterns for opportunities for one-way streets, roundabouts, and make our existing street patterns work better.

The Champlain Parkway will directly have a negative impact on the families of the King Maple Neighborhood. This neighborhood has one of the largest percentages of minorities in the city of Burlington and 80% of all households are low to moderate income. The current proposal would increase traffic and speed of traffic where these families live
