I'm a band student. I almost have no time for myself with both band and homework. Sometimes I'm not able to get everything done because of after school practice or just wanting some time to myself. I am an A-B student and the fact that one day late subtracts 30 points has already brought me down to a C. It's just ruining our GPA because we maybe forgot/didn't have time for a worksheet for one day.

I am a student athlete. It’s hardly a month into school and I’ve already heard numerous stories of students from classes 18’-21’ staying up all hours of the night to complete assignments because of the fear of almost positively making a failing grade. Most students, like myself, have extracurricular activities after school, practices and meets as early as 5:30, or maybe they’d just like to have the social life that their school is currently depriving them of:) And as for kids that consistently turn absolutely no work in, there is no reason to punish them when obviously their PARENTS don’t even care to motivate them so that they might actually succeed in life. From a GPA aspect, yes this policy will create a much larger deficit between students who do their work and those who do not, but may I remind you that there are different levels of classes with differently weighted grade point averages for a reason? Put students who are intelligent in the more advanced classes (PAP, AP, or DC) and put lower level students in regular courses because they have no business being in a course they can’t handle in the first place. I’ve heard multiple administrators and parents say that the policy changed to motivate students to manage their time and make a better image of Royse City, but clearly whoever made that decision was very negligent to the misery that the students would have to go through to actually succeed.

I find this totally absurd and unfairly unacceptable. If you turn it in one day late than at least take like five points everyday it´s late but seeing all our hard work go down the drain is upsetting and disappointing to all of us . seeing a wonderful 95 go to a 65 is sad and cruel.

This new policy really doesn't show our knowledge like it should. It makes the kids at RCHS look dumb

Even if this allows students only to turn something in 3 days late would be perfect!

I just wanna say that whoever changed the late grade policy is an idiot. Do you want your students @ RCHS to always have this crippling reminder that if you get a single late grade that they're gonna fail if they get a question wrong on that late paper. They have set us up for failure. If this doesn't show you that the people making these policies are idiots, i don't know what will.

The only drawback is that a lot of parents believe the policy is a very good thing. My parents for example said this, and I quote: "They did this so that all of your lazy a**es can learn a sense of responsibility!...". I for one, completely agree with this, and applaud you for finally taking a stance to make a move and change something for the better in this corrupt system. I say corrupt because RCISD IS corrupt. For example, their Summer School program...the way they charge you $60 for it is ILLEGAL in the state of Texas! Something needs to change. I'm glad the student body finally has a voice in this school...

Well written and good use of critical thinking and reasoning. I agree this policy does little to deter students that are going to habitually have late assignments regardless of a school policy. It only serves to overly punish student who care and on occasion have an assignment that is late. In my opinion this was passed because RCISD is teadering on being classified as an under performing school. If this happened it would open the school up to the possibility of being audited and they desperately don't won't that.

not just extracurricular activities but also we have family's and sometimes there's something going on with our family like my aunt being in the hospital and I go to the hospital and get home at 11:00 p.m.
