Or...let the grade serve its purpose to identify strengths and weaknesses per the student. Then, have some type of consequence follow. I can assure you that a teenager will be more phased by a detention than losing points on his or her assignment. If you're trying to teach a valuable life "lesson" of being on time, do so in a manner that doesn't jeopardize whether they are capable of making all a's versus c's and f's. Dear teacher, more work for you in the end when you have to offer tutoring to a student who is failing when they shouldn't be!

I agree, this is a very tough punishment for all the students trying to better themselves, if they mess up. I feel it is very dangerous for the students who stay up late completing assignments, to avoid a late grade, not only are they not staying healthy, they become dangerous while driving to and from school. They wont make good decisions & may end up hurting themselves and possible others around them. My daughter is in band and many advanced classes as well & these kids are truly dedicated students trying to be the best in the band, have the best grades & get into the best colleges. This grading policy only hurts these students that are trying to be the Best for themselves, their school, their families, their churches & hopefully one day be the best they can be in a top college & career. With a grading policy like this I feel it is only setting the students up to fail, and not the ones who don't care will it hurt the most.

I agree wholeheartedly! If you turn in a project just one day late and make anything less than 100, you automatically fail! It's unfair and kinda crazy. Some kids also have jobs and it might totally slip their mind when they get home. Like you said, setting kids up for failure.

15 even 20 might've been reasonable, not 30. This is definitely some backwards motivation.

This is very unfair to anyone who has no free time. Say is you have extracurricular activities then turn in a 70 that might make you ineligible for the activity

Kids shouldn't be punished for being involved in school activities by the school making it easier for us to fail. We are kids we might forget something every once in a while but -30 points is a little extreme

I think this is a bit much. I'm not going to make excuses for my child. She knows school work comes first. If she wants to stay in her extra curricular activities she has to keep her grades up and make sure her homework is done and turned in on time. But on the off chance she forgets it at home and it doesn't get turned in on time I don't think she should lose 30 points. So because of that I am signing this petition.

-30 points on the first day seems excessive when last years policy was only -10

Students are more concerned with getting "something" done just to turn in the assignment that I have witnessed more cheating and inaccurate work. This is unnecessarily stressing out our good students who are hardworking and actively involved in multiple programs. The students who are habitually late or unmotivated are already apathetic and this new policy simply leads to the next step...quitting.

I have extra caricular activities including Cross Country, Track, and Student council. I am also in all Advanced classes...I try my best to do my work on time but staying up all night is not healthy and I've had to do so several times already. I have Cross Country meets at 5:30am and can not do my best and represent Royse City if I am sleep deprived
Please end this nonsense
