I am a parent with two children at Redlands College. I feel that changing the current structure of Senior school spiritual life groups to include all age groups is a big mistake. Children have been placed in a group in year 10 and told that they'd be in this group for the remainder of senior school. They have bonded and formed trust relationships with their spiritual life groups and particularly their appointed teacher. I believe that there will be enormous benefit in terms of ongoing peer support, in maintaining the current system of spiritual life groups.

How do you honestly expect to keep students engaged in learning for 1 hour and 40 minutes for a double, let alone 50 minutes?! I believe that optimum minutes for engaging students is 42 minutes. Please reconsider this change to the timetable...I know my child for one, will really struggle with such long lessons.

As a current year 12 student, the existing timetable system works perfectly well. Study halls are of great benefit considering a lot of time is taken up by QCS practice and real tests, so they are 100% needed in order to catch up on vital school work that has been missed. The current length of the periods is the maximum time I personally have been able to focus for, anything past that will be a waste of time as kids will disengage immediately. The need to keep spiritual life class containing students of the same year level is essential as you can encourage each other about the same things that are happening within your grade as you all have the same knowledge on that topic. Hope the school can leave the system as it is to ensure you guys can enjoy a wonderful education experience with each other!!

I oppose the omission of study hall periods and the division of students by gender and house with mixed grade pastoral care classes that are not at the start of the day.

It is already causing distress for the future yr 12s
certainly change management could be better in preparing the school for this transition
1 term is not enough

Agreed. That is far too long to have students sitting in one class without a break/walk to another class/ change of pace/subject. Even adults struggle to concentrate for that long!

As a parent of children in years 7 & 11, I think this proposal is absurd! How can you expect teenagers to sit & engage for 140 minute lessons. It will cause immense disruption to 2017's Year 12. I have read Mr Bensley's email regarding the changes & find the reasoning & research to support the changes baffling. They are most definitely not in the best interest of the students!

As a parent and a fulltime student myself. I know just how hard it is too stay focused for any longer than an hour at a time without a break. And I'm fortunate enough to be able to snack on nuts etc while in class. Teenagers become disengaged quickly, consider the ripple effect of these changes. At the very least allow the students an informed question answer session to address their concerns and the rationale behind the schools decision.

Another bad thing with the timetable, is that if someone is delayed on the way to school or comes in late, they'll miss out on actual schoolwork instead of spiritual life.
