Rc Timetable change

Listen to the Students/Humans !

Thus is reduculous and the school isnt listening to us.

This new time table will not be a good step for the school to make! They say that all the teachers will teach to the new method, but how can they insure that all of the teachers will! I know for sure at least 5 teachers that will not change there teaching methods

As a parent, I disagree with changing the timetable. We have previously been to a school with triple lessons. My child was disengaged before school even started with the triple lesson, commenting that they didn't want to sit through it and didn't even listen after a while and by the third lesson, wasn't learning anything. Some teachers get students to watch YouTube on the subject or read through their text books and are not engaging their students at all, so this will further exacerbate the problem of not engaging in these lessons. Perhaps with lessons which involve physical work, such as Art, Home Ec and IT, this would work, but for lessons, such as Maths, it will be detrimental. I know by my daughter's experience at her previous school. It simply doesn't work. The idea of mixed-aged and one-gender spiritual life groups is not a well-thought out idea at all. Not only does it take away the relationships already developed, it potentially introduces younger students to older students who, by the very nature of being older senior students, have a level of influence and power over the younger students. Male and female students should be continuing to learn to interact with each and build friendships. Same sex grouping automatically infers that females and males should not be interacting as friends and has the potential to simply create further curiousity and experimentation. We should be moving in a direction which incorporates all challenges and needs of our students in the world today, not going backwards. These seem to be rash decisions and do not take into consideration the needs of the students.

I agree with the earlier morning break but disagree with making students sit through 1hr40mins of a double lesson - this will reduce productivity as kids will struggle to absorb information for such a long period of time. Sure it may help the teachers increase the amount of content they can deliver per lesson, but this will be to the detriment of the pupil. The students who externally represent their school through sport and music commitments are also adversely effected. Catching up on 1hr40mins of a particular subject will impact them dramically at home. Perhaps this will impact on the amount of students who will choose to represent the school externally during class time in 2017 and in the future. Also I disagree with splitting students up for pastoral care according to genger and house group. How will this build stronger relationships between students of the same year level? How does it help students of the opposite gender learn to communicate and associate with each other? This new timetable hasn't been thought through with the students best interests in mind. As a parent I strongly disagree with the new timetable and would consider alternative access to education should this new timetable negatively impact my children's way of learning.

I think the longer periods will be detrimental to my children's academic performance (it will negatively impact on the learning process) and it will reduce the much needed physical activity between classes throughout the day. Is the RC Timetable change justified based on sound research by prominent researchers in the field?

I don't believe this is going to help at all and it's better to leave the timetable as is because without the single lessons we can't concentrate because we're in class for so long. I have been to a school where ther have only been 6 periods a day and it was horrible.

Spiritual life classes should not be changed. They are for peer groups. I believed creating middle school was to allow those going through puberty to be with their peers and not given a hard time by the younger and older students. What has changed? Puberty certainly hasn't. Thought also needs to be given to students attention span. A change certainly not in the interests of students in senior year. Definitely not enough consultation or thought given to the proposed changes.

I currently have a boy in Year 6. My daughter graduated last year. I seriously think you should be talking, listening to the students. I do believe their attention span will not cope with the extend class time. I actually agree with Elise Lanage. Thank you!

To the decision makers of Redlands College I think you should listen to your students. Their comments are very valid. I have two boys in yr 7 and yr 10. The extended periods will not capture the students concentration and most will fade after 20 min. The present timetable works very well. Although I like the idea of pastoral care I believe the way it is structured will not work. Students need to be with their peers and they also need different teachers each year to adapt to different personalities. Why not incorporate pastoral care with the current home room.
