Join us in calling on Ghana’s Parliament to ratify the African Disability Protocol now—to secure dignity, equality, and justice for all persons with disabilities and their caregivers
We, persons with disabilities (PWDs), caregivers, allies, and concerned citizens of Ghana, urgently call on the Parliament of Ghana to ratify /expedite the ratification of the African Disability Protocol (ADP) without delay.
Why this matters
- Over 5 million Ghanaians live with some form of disability, yet many continue to face systemic discrimination, barriers to education, healthcare, employment, and political participation.
- The African Disability Protocol (ADP) is the first human rights treaty in Africa that specifically addresses the lived realities of PWDs on our continent—recognizing issues like harmful cultural practices, discrimination in access to resources, and the rights of caregivers.
- Ratifying the ADP will strengthen Ghana’s commitment to inclusivity, dignity, and equal opportunity for all citizens—ensuring no one is left behind.
What we are demanding
We respectfully but firmly call on the Parliament of Ghana to:
- Ratify the African Disability Protocol immediately, to align with Ghana’s constitutional values of equality and justice.
- Prioritize disability-inclusive policies and resources, ensuring the ADP’s principles are reflected in practice.
- Engage PWDs and caregivers in decision-making processes, so policies reflect the real needs of the community.
Our voices matter
This petition is not just about signatures—it is about lives, dignity, and the future of a more inclusive Ghana. Every day of delay prolongs inequality and denies millions of Ghanaians their full rights.
Seeking inclusion is a cry we all should do. Everyone is just a step away from being a person with disability. Accidents and disasters are unexpected and can happen to anyone to make an individual a person with disability. Ones old age can as well put an individual there. Let us all come together in this cry. It would be t our own benefit
