Increase the RA Meal Plan at UK!

A petition of the Resident Advisors (RAs) of the University of Kentucky Addressed to the following: JIM WIMS, Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs & Director of Residence Life TONY RALPH, Associate Director of Residence Life MARCIA SHROUT, Assistant Director for North and Central Campuses LISA LOCKMAN, Assistant Director for Greek & Apartment Housing STEVE STAUFFER, Assistant Director for South Campus SUSAN WILTON, Assistant Director for Student and Staff Development WE THE UNDERSIGNED WOULD LIKE TO BRING YOUR ATTENTION TO THE FOLLOWING PROBLEM, WITH RECOMMENDATIONS: The current RA meal plan includes a combination of 5 meals per week plus $360 Flex Dollars per semester. This is an insufficient dining plan for staff members that are required to live and work on campus and inadequate compensation for the work that is done by RAs. Despite this plan costing more than the 2007-2008 meal plan, we are offered (1) less meals per week and (2) less Flex Dollars when compared to last year\'s plan, due to the University of Kentucky Dining Services lowering the minimum meal plan. To change the RA meal plan, we the undersigned offer the following recommendations to the University of Kentucky Office of Residence Life as possible solutions to this problem: 1. Remove the restriction on "rolling over" unused meals, allowing RAs to accumulate meals as the semester progresses. 2. Increase the amount of Flex Dollars offered to RAs. 3. Increase the amount of meals offered to RAs. While these are our main suggestions, we are willing to cooperatively work towards a mutually advantageous solution. ADDENDUM #1: This petition will be submitted to the Resident Advisor Advisory Board (RAAB) at their first regularly scheduled meeting.
