It would be a great addition to our community to continue to encourage physical fitness throughout the year, not just in the warm months. We truly need indoor courts.

Check out the use of public courts at night from early spring to late fall. They are generally fully in use.

I actually joined a small tennis club because public courts are getting so hard to get. Explosive population growth but no new courts? More courts are needed.

As a tennis player from a small town, with no half decent tennis courts, who just moved to Raleigh to play tennis at WPU I want nothing more than to help tennis grow in every community.

Raleigh Parks & Rec does not understand the economic impact of tennis nor do they care. The City has no clue about tennis nor have they ever cared to learn. That is obvious and has been since I moved here over 30 years ago from San Diego. If Raleigh understood tennis like Cary does, not only would we have new courts but the current ones would be in better shape and instead of building parks with 3 or 4 courts, more would have at least 5 or 6 at each location so that you could have a USTA league match. Benchmark CTP, Mobile Tennis Center, Cooper Creek Tennis Center in Columbus, GA, Richland in Columbia, SC, and the new one in Rome, GA (51 courts), and you will see that if you build and maintain courts properly you can have tournaments, league play and programming. The amount of money raised and the economic impact to the city will more than pay for the construction and maintenance of the courts. And we have had no community effort to get more built either. This is the first time the community tennis association has attempted to get in front of City Council and drive home the message. Heck, they've been doing that for years in Cary!! And all you have to do is drive over there and see what the fruits of their labor have been. They're even about to build an indoor facility in Cary. Raleigh has more league activity and people playing than just about anywhere in the south outside of Atlanta. It is going to take more than this petition to get something done here. You need some smart, motivated individuals who understand the tennis business to get up in front of council and make a presentation. Then a concerted effort to make sure it happens. All you have to do is look at what happened to the Southeast Raleigh Tennis Center to understand what can occur if there is no follow-up. That was a property developer looking to gain the favor of city council on future projects as well as throw a bone to James West and his Southeast Raleigh constituents. That had nothing to do with be

I used to be able to just show up at Millbrook Tennis Center in the evening and get a court. Now it's impossible even if I'm reserving the day before.

Bill Mooney, I am not fighting this petition only pointing out that the city made a commitment to build courts in SE Raleigh. No mention is made of this in the petition. All you white tennis players in North Raleigh want courts up there but could care less about courts being built here in the hood. We get shafted every time and I want the Raleigh Tennis Community to know it's not happening again!!

As the founder of SportsWorks and King of the Court Tennis Ministry, a USTA Community Tennis Associate, National Junior Tennis and Learning Association , and a 2016 USTA Foundation grant recipient, I concur that Raleigh is in dire need of more tennis courts. Please help us add more facilities to accommodate the growth and popularity of the sport of tennis.
