As the parent of an alumna of LGHS I am embarrassed and ashamed for both the school and the community of Los Gatos. This has got to be dealt with.

I worked for many years at Icing on the Cake and as such have been a part of the celebrations (birthdays, holidays, graduations) of so many members of the LGHS community. This behavior is an affront to the community, and should be seriously and expediently addressed by the administration.

I lived in LG for 5 years and am appalled that this could happen there. I am a high school teacher as well and know that the administration is probably also appalled. Please deliver consequences, open discussion, and make changes in your system.

I do LOVE the propasl they had to address it....but maybe somehow, schools and communities, should have students take a field trip to do something having to work with, interact with, talk to, etc POC ...have some older ones whom lived in the 30s to 50s and so on talk about their experiences, and more modern people talk about their experiences...it is crucial these kids be able to humanize people. Maybe include some sort of history field trip as well? I dont know..just some ideas on how to get kids to realzie not only the atrocities minorities face but also relaize they are also someones mom, dad, sibling, child, etc..humanize them so they realize they are also deserving of being treated as an equal human being. Many people think that POC or disabled etc dont get treated like this...but we do. Anyone else have any other potential ideas on other activities that can be done to allow kids to humanize POC and get to talk to them and hear their stories????Im drawing a blank other than the ones I suggested. Its imperative our children are taught yong beofre it cements in and makes it difficult to budge them. Maybe someone can start a petition to get these ideas and other peoples ideas that may help to get them somehow implemented into communities or schools? Food for thought...do you guys think if we shared some of the ideas on things communities can actively do with Shaun King, that he can somehow get a movement going? Honestly, I feel like nothing is working completely so far. We have protests and so on, but I am beginning to think it is time people get together and actively do positive stuff...like not arguing but communicate...help them find the empathy...help them hear the stories from people personally to allow them to personally SEE the pain in their face and HEAR it in their voices...I dont think we are getting enough of this happening and I am wondering if it is preventing people from fully crossing the barriers into being able to fully comprehend it. It is very disheartening that Los Gatos High School and the school district did not take the actions of these students as seriously as they should have. If you wish for such an incident to never recur punishment should reflect that. These students display a complete disregard for the feelings of not only the other students at this school but an entire race. Sickening.

This is unacceptable behavior. All children need to feel safe and protected in society at large, and since this is not the case with a rise in hate crimes occurring throughout the country, schools need to take extra care to ensure children of color are made to feel that their lives matter and that in coming to school they are entering into a safe space. Please do what is right.

I went to LGHS in the 1990s and it was a disgustingly segregated and xenophobic school, only about maybe 10 african american students, and most of the white american students were very hostile and violent to foreigners...I was so glad to leave and move to the east coast where there is a civilized and inclusive atmosphere for all races and national origins. These racist promposals don't surprise me one bit. I have very bad memories of California mostly because of the racist and xenophobic redneck culture in Los Gatos.
