Racial Justice Demands for Seattle Jewish Organizations

I am of German heritage. My grandparents, my mother and her brother fled ago evade prosecution.

Endorsement of Black Lived Matter is important.

I support the underlying vision of this petition that individuals and organizations that constitute the Jewish community can do more to intentionally commit to actions that truly reflect the meaning behind 'moving sentiments into concrete action'. I commit to do what I can toward that end while recognizing that it is only when we come together broadly that we can have the power and the common vision to bring about the changes that can truly transform our society.

Jewish liberation means collective liberation. We cannot speak of freedom without institutional change to end racism in our Jewish communities.

This is an important letter requesting that our words and values are followed up by concrete, precise actions that will reinforce our beautiful Jewish values in the life of our community. Please consider and adopt these steps that will demonstrate our commitment to Tikkun Olam.

This is an excellent list of concrete actions that the Jewish community can take to confront institutional racism within our own community. This will show a strong commitment to undoing racism at home and in the larger community.

Upholding these 8 holy community obligations is long overdue. It is time Jewish institutions stand on the right side of history, and unequivocally for Black lives.

As the daughter of German Jews who managed to escape Germany before the Holocaust, I was always taught about the worth of every human, and the importance of fighting for the rights of others.

This work is so important and spiritual. Engaging it together with our Jewish community can bring us all so much closer together and bring down the barriers among Jews and between Jews and other communities.

Our history of slavery, Jim Crow, lynchings, voter suppression and the continued torture and murder of POC by the police is a burden that we all carry. It is a heavy burden. It is clearly time for change and reparations. We must engage now and we must not give up. We must not look away. We must not forget.

KHN is in conversation, wants to include discussions about how to replace police presence in situations like robbery or auto accident. Insurance companies ask for police report numbers. How can another org fill a report and data collection and support capacity that does not involve police.
