Racial Justice Demands for Seattle Jewish Organizations

Kadima already signed on.

I sign this though there are items I can't yet embrace --maybe with discussion. I hope we can move into solid actions that become the new structures that endure.

It is so massively important to begin uplifting the voices of Jews of Color and BIPOC within the community. As a community that has effectively and extensively pushed for more conversation around justice and anti-oppression work, we must now stand with BIPOC communities demanding justice today.

We cannot continue to support a system which was intended for only those at the top.

I am married to a holocaust survivor whose tiny life (2 years old) did not matter to race haters in Prague in 1939. I want to combat race hate against Blacks now.

Keep up the good work

I appreciate this work and support this petition. Thank you. I live in an area where there is no synagogue-only a room in a church for Saturday services for Jewish people-so I am not sure this petition would have any affect on the small Jewish population in my area.

Please do the work

We support the motivation behind this petition, and agree that individuals and organizations in the Jewish community must step up by taking action to create meaningful change for BIPOC. While we cannot commit to every detail in the petition, we will identify concrete actions we can pursue and we will set a timeline for committing to this important work. As it’s said in Pirke Avot 2:21, “You are not obligated to complete the work, but neither are you free to desist from it.”

I am a friend and supporter of the Jewish community in Seattle who will work on upholding these demands, and encourage my friends, peers, and colleagues to do the same.

My brother is in Shpilkis.

My great great grandmother fled to America for a better life but lost family members in concentration camps. My grandfather was so proud of his Jewish heritage and that makes me proud❤

As a Jew of Color, I believe that Jewish leadership and congregations still have a l ok ng way to go in fighting white supremacy. I often don't feel represented or seen.

I support the vision of change represented by this document. I believe that the Jewish community can and must do better and that we have much to do in order to create meaningful and lasting change. Whether or not our Jewish organizations can commit to every detail in this document in the next three years is not the point. The point is that we have serious work ahead of us to transform words into action. I encourage every Seattle Jewish organization to articulate the concrete actions they commit to in the coming year and to commit to giving an update, including concrete next steps, during the month of Elul every year for at least the next three years. I personally commit to working within the communities where I am active so that, as this document says, “justice, well-being and belonging are actually available to all.”

I agree with 1-7. I don’t agree with a complete severance as Law Enforcement has a role to protect marginalized communities from extremists. Our organizations and leaders need a seat at the table when it comes to Police Reform.

As a Jew of color myself, I wholeheartedly support this petition.
