Rachel Williams, Junior, Civic Engagement Commissioner Petition

I am applying for the Civic Engagement Commissioner position because I understand the importance of students’ involvement not only in academics, but also involvement in their community.
I am a great candidate for this position because I have lots of relevant experience. A Civic Engagement Commissioner hosts programs throughout the semester to highlight the importance of community. As a past RA and current RCA, I have hosted numerous successful programs for the student body. Also, as a cheerleader, member of Sigma Tau Delta, and worker at Dugout, I feel deeply connected to the Wesleyan community. My involvement as Assistant Editor of Tributaries and staff writer for The Argus have helped me learn how to address areas of public concern in accessible and creative ways. My major of political science has taught me the significance of duty. I also have volunteer experience in my hometown as a Relay for Life volunteer and Vacation Bible School volunteer.
As Civic Engagement Commissioner, I would focus heavily on how our identity as citizens and participation in democratic processes affects our daily lives. I would also center programs around opportunities of volunteerism in the Bloomington-Normal community.
I hope you will consider me for this position and sign my petition today! Thank you!
