Dear Principal Williams,
Queen's University is currently invested in a number of companies which have committed "social injury" as outlined in the Queen's University Statement of Responsible Investing. These companies have had an injurious impact on consumers, employees, or other persons and have violated, or frustrated, the enforcement of rules of domestic or international law intended to protect individuals against deprivation of health, safety, or basic freedoms.
Of those who have committed "social injury" the following are particularly egregious: Nestle, Wal-Mart, Monsanto, BHP Billiton, Royal Dutch Shell, Goldcorp, Lockheed-Martin, Dow Chemical, Chiquita, Del Monte, Altria/Philip Morris, British American Tobacco, ExxonMobile, Chevron, Barrick Gold, and Rio Tinto.
We, the undersigned, ask the Queen's Board of Trustees to divest all Queen's assets from the aforementioned companies. Should economic conditions prohibit this action, we ask that the Board of Trustees divest all assets when the value of each individual holding returns to its value as of September 1, 2008 or three years has passed since the receipt of this petition, whichever occurs first.
queens needs to wake up and look at who they are actually handing money to. so embarrassed to be an alumni right now.
