What is the difference between this shameful law and the law that bans women in some foreign countries from exercising their rights to education, marriage, and free speech? Just because you want to be different from other provinces doesn't take away people's right of choice.

The thought behind this "progressive", "feminist" law was that taking your husband's surname insinuated that you are his property. Using that stream of thought, am I my father's property? As a feminist I loath this ludicrous law that encroaches on my right to choose my surname.

I believe this law should be changed and that a woman has the right to take her husbands name. This law was changed based on feminists I am not a feminist and feel it is My civil right to decide if I wish to keep my maiden name, or join it with my husbands name.

I'm getting married in May 2015 and I would love to take my husbands name or at least hyphenate it so that when we have kids I don't have to hyphenate their last names with both of ours they can just take their fathers because mine would be hyphenated

The Quebec government feels that taking their spouses name belittles the women in the nature of living in their husbands shadow, But being forced to live with your parents last name is making women live in the shadow of their parents for the rest of their lives. I believe most woman want to start a new family with the man they love and be in uni sen with them then being lebelled as your parents child all your life. My fiance happens to be one of these ladies. I have lived in Quebec all my life but sadly because of our desire to share last names we are forced to move to another place that allows women to have this simply choice in their life.

Not having the choice that so many other women have in other countries and provinces is unfair for Quebec woman residents.
