I would like to have the same last name as my husband and children. I am the only family member who does not have the same last name. I am constantly questioned when traveling abroad, alone with my child. I want to feel like a family unit

My name is foreign and difficult to pronounce. Let me take my husband's name! I want to share the same last name as my children!

I was born outside quebec and I'm recently engaged..I'm old fashioned and always dreamed of having my husbands last name.Quebec might be it's own province but it's still in Canada and our right to freedom of choice shouldn't be taken away from us .It's ridiculous, everywhere else in Canada ,you can legally change your name after marriage

I should have the right to choose my husband's last name. Out of my family of 5, I am the only one with a different name!

I would like my choice to be considered. Some of us have very good reasons for wishing to take our spouse's name instead of a parent.

Based on the "examples" that Quebec provides as some of the valid reasons a person may change their name, your statement may apply. "serious prejudice or psychological suffering by continuing to use the current name"

I would like to advocate that we take to the streets! this is the Quebecois way and the way we will be heard. This law is outdated and needs to be changed.

I too feel unbelievably repressed to know if I marry I cannot change my last name to my husbands. I cringe every time I see my fathers' last name beside mine, as we are estranged. If anything being forced to keep my fathers name has had, and would continue to have very negative effects on my life!
Why not just meet in the middle guys??

To me it's important to change my name to my husband's last name. It would enforce the fact that we are a family, and allow me to share the same last name as my children.

One more reason why I'm ashamed that Quebec is a part of Canada.

If you were married before 1981, you are allowed to continue to use your married name. That is the law, regardless of what department of the Quebec govt you are dealing with. The problem is that the "youngins" working in these places do not appreciate that there was a time BEFORE 1981 therefore they only think that you are not allowed you use your married name. Women in senior facilities who were married in other countries and have been their married name for as long as they can remember, are being called by their maiden names in clinics and hospitals and care centres because it's easier to let people do it than to fight it. You ARE however allowed to use your married name.

Allow free choice to the partners, whichever name they want to chose to take for their family.
