I’m signing this petition in full agreement as my marriage surname (as shown on my foreign passport when entering Quebec) has been immediately changed to my father’s surname upon arrival in Quebec, which generated a litany of problems for me.

My wife and I were married November 13th 2021 at 3:30pm at the Palais de Justice in Montreal, it was a really nice, simple ceremony, where our families could take part in our special day. We consider ourselves fortunate to have been married in the historic city of Montreal. My wife & I were together 8 years before we got married and she's always expressed a desire to take my last name, this archaic law should be amended to atleast allow a choice. Thank you.

Doesn't the fact that as women we are not given the choice a violation of our civil rights? It makes no sense at all, but that's Quebec for you, the government needs to have their hands in your business all the time.

It is time for a change! We have the right to choose our own names and to try to prevent us from doing such is oppression, the exact thing this law states it is fighting against. This bill is contradictory to the exact issue it is trying to prove. Yes, we need to gather in numbers. Our voices will be louder If We Gather many. I am prepared to protest this outdated and absolutely asinine law. I am 100% in support of this law being changed!

I have been married foe 24 years and changed my name LEGALLY after we wed. I have been known as my married name on my university documentation, professional designations, passport, security clearance, etc. all these years. I just moved to Quebec and am now being told I MUST revert back to a name I haven't used in 24 years!!!
