Unfair Examination for PYC4810

Examiners' expectations from us were too high. We were expected to write 4 essays with 5 references per essay in 3 hours where we were required to guess the chapter, the theory, and google online journals etcetera. It was too much to handle. I suggest we get a portfolio as an exam for this module.

The questions were difficult to understand. The exam was set in such a way that we couldn't finish the paper. This was an unfair exam!

Questions were ambigous. In another question basically told not to use the textbook which produced more confusion

Extract from our email detailing why what was expected of us was highly unreasonable: 1. The paper required us to use APA referencing throughout, a request that unique to this module. No other module expects us to make academic citations in a time-limited paper, as it simply impossible to do with the amount of referencing required in this paper. 2. The e-reserves provided for us were irrelevant to the exam content, which meant we had to spend our time looking online for academic articles and reading through them, during a timed exam. 3. As you can see in the attached paper, most questions required us to cite 5 sources outside of our text book for each question, and one going as far as to ban us from using the 600 page textbook we were instructed to summarize in preparation for the exam. This, combined with points 1 & 2, means that this paper was in practice impossible to complete. 4.This module suffered from poor communication all year, including during exam preparation. Our request for chapters to focus on from a 600 page book were refused by our lecturers. Instead, we were told that we also need to study all the above-mentioned e-reserves, which ended up being irrelevant to the exam paper. We were told of the expected referencing method an hour before the exam. 5. Some students struggled with the submission of assignments due to the system malfunctioning, but were not accommodated. 6. The lecturers have now released a statement that they will be lenient with the marking, and that students will not be penalized for not using correct referencing. That does not help us in any way, as most of us wasted most of our exam time looking for relevant articles.
