He needs to be locked up. Prison doesn't make people better so he either needs to stay there forever or get help. What he did is despicable but try and forgive him. Forgiveness is for YOU! The hate is not healthy. Don't be a victim, you are a survivor!

I worked as a mental health therapist with domestic violence victims and perpetrators for 25 years. This level of injury is a clear indication that the abuser will continue to hurt women with a good possibility he will eventually kill one. Please consider revising the charges to attempted murder and put him away for the longest sentence possible with a restraining order for life to stay away from the victim. Assuming he will eventually be released from prison he should be ordered to go through anger management prior to his release.
